Welf dynasty changed its name when I wasn't looking???!!!
I've started a campaign as the von Hohenstaufen in 1066. To approximate to historical reality, I made sure that the Welf's were awarded the Duchy of Bavaria beforehand. Several decades into the game, I find that the Welfs are now called von Ziegenhain! Why did that happen?

No, it's still Welf and his first wife Bethlinde

Maybe this is another man named Welf, the son of the former, but a unlegitimized bastard and thus with a different Dynasty name. You can also check who acquired the title of the duchy of Bavaria and when by clicking on its coat of arms and selecting history. There you can see all title holders and their time periods.

True. One of their in-game traits is named that for Pete's sake!

I checked. It's Duke Welf originally of House Welf now something else entirely. Very odd.

Not to mention what William was called before he became William the Conqueror...
