Worst county to start in 867

So I had the idea to start a game on a island in The Old Gods 867 start.
I was thinking about Sicily or Sardinia, but I decided to go for Mallorca (spanish islands near barcelona).

Is this the worst possible start position ever in the 867 start?
You're on an island with no boat... and there is nothing happening lol. My court is sooo small. And I cant invite anyone. Im stuck with people on my council with skills under 5 in their position, because there is no one to choose from ...

What this just a horrible idea? Has anyone tried this before?
At around what year are we supposed to get boats?

The problem with my game right now is that there is nothing happening... Im wondering if its supposed to get better soon, or if I should start on some other island... And Im also wondering if I should just forget about starting on an island in the 867 start because you don't have any boats.

If by "action" you mean "you begin in a war with something like 30000 norsemen taking all of your territory" then yes, yes there is.

That's just how the game is for some characters when you start out. If you're still learning the game you might want to consider playing as a Duke or King. It might seem like cheating (I always prefer taking the hard road to power) but you'll learn more because you'll start off with the ability to actually do things. heh.

I've been playing for a while, but I've never had NOTHING to do like that lol.
Im also not making any money at all. I make 0.04 a month, and my liege is always at war, which lowers that amount to like 0.02 or even in the negative. I have 25 gold right now...

I met to start in a weird position, but this supprisingly boring...
And the guy on the island next to me is always in war against my liege, so he's constantly seiging my holdings... but the wars dont end because no one can get to his army because no one has any boats...

So is this the worst possible starting point? Im in 895 now (started in 867) and literally nothing happened lol

The Canaries in 867 ought to suck, too. Minor, unreformed West African count, no ships, the only place you'd be able to expand to is full of angry-looking Muslims...

idk, i love playing as the underdog, never have started a game as anything higher than a count, this way winning is so much more satisfaying.
I swear if I could I would be a baron, or even better, start with only troops of pesant revolt lol

Depends on what you mean by worst start. If you mean boring as all sin then Malta, Canaries and the like probaly take the prize :} your to small and to isolated. If you mean the one that starts you of in the worst posisition then thats East Anglia.

I like starting as the count of Tripoli or Beirut in 1066 first I make him a norsemen (and sometimes a christian) with the ruler editor. I then try and survive the Fatimids, Seljuks, Byzantium and the crusaders when they come. They all get slightly ornery at a sunburnt viking sauntering around the levant conquering their holy stuff.

Iceland, its possible to survive, but not very likely, if you raid ireland constantly to get money you can possibly hire enough mercs to hold off the constant invasions from norway, then once they break, either slowly expand towards norway taking the weakest targets, or conquer ireland

After reading this I decided to try East Anglia, just for the lulz...
I died after 5 months, in a Norse dungeon. Minus 1080 points.
That was terrifying.

i really dont see the problem with iceland. just make sure to marry your children to norway as often as possible. and if you are a bit lucky, well, assassinate the right person and say hello to your new title. ...or swear fealty. that works too.

I agree, ck2 is one of those games where independence is not all that valuable, better to take the system down from inside...

And yeah, I met the worst as in really boring lol.
I might just start over in like Sicily or something like that. There should be a bit more stuff to do :D

Sawdanid has been hard for me, start with Italy holy waring you joined by west francia and esat francia, that 500 from jews won't save you. Afer losing Bari to Italy, you sit there with you single county. Unfortunately it won't take long before either Byzantium or Salerno takes that from you.
