Irish Tribal Concubines?
Is it just my game or have the Irish tribes lost the ability to take concubines as of last patch? I picked up a game I started back in May and not only has Ivar the Boneless' granddaughter gone from being a captive concubine to a regular courtier, but the option to take any cocubines at all is now gone from the Irish tribe GUI, even though the faction info page still lists it as an option.

Must be the 2.4 patch that fixed it. The ability to take concubines was tied to the tribal government type for Ireland. Seems like the made it so it's tied to religion now. It's aa good fix. Christians shouldn't be able to engage in polygamy.

^ and Norse shouldn't be able to reform. I honestly don't mind this change too much provided Paradox gets off its bum and adds some flavour to Catholics.

Playing 700 years on Elective gavelkind is totally reasonable ><

Sure they should add flavor but it makes no sense whatsowever for Christianity to allow poligamy in Ireland.

Why not?

I mean, in the earliest starting date, Ireland has only been christian for a few centirues. I doubt they would outgrow all of the old pagan traditions (like concobinage) over night.

Plus, as tribes are much more isolated than counties, the church laws are often a bit harder to enforce.

and it's not like concubines were not a thing in catholic feudal europe. i mean "royal concubine" was a semi-official position for the french court until the revolutions.

@ Falk0

Elective gavelkind is totally reasonable for pagans and since when has Paradox cared about sense? We have demonic children, pagan reformations, Aztec invasions, and all ohter kinds of assorted lunacy. Catholicism doesn't allow polygamy, but a tribal chief ignoring this doesn't seem like that much of a stretch considering what else we can do. Again, I don't mind its removal too much, but it does make Catholics even more boring and generic.

You make some valid arguments. But Chrisianity reached Ireland in the 5th century. Two centuries is definitely not over night. Chrisianity was also a very aggresive and very strict religion. I'm pretty sure as soon as the majority of the population converted priests would have persecuted those who didn't with the support of the Christian population.

It's also better to have fix and established mechanics for religions/government types ingame. Not having it is just confusing.

FYI historically the Early Irish Catholic Church did to a degree allow things such as that. Even Preists could marry. It was one of several issues that often put them at odds with Rome.
