Sure they should add flavor but it makes no sense whatsowever for Christianity to allow poligamy in Ireland.
Why not?
I mean, in the earliest starting date, Ireland has only been christian for a few centirues. I doubt they would outgrow all of the old pagan traditions (like concobinage) over night.
Plus, as tribes are much more isolated than counties, the church laws are often a bit harder to enforce.
Elective gavelkind is totally reasonable for pagans and since when has Paradox cared about sense? We have demonic children, pagan reformations, Aztec invasions, and all ohter kinds of assorted lunacy. Catholicism doesn't allow polygamy, but a tribal chief ignoring this doesn't seem like that much of a stretch considering what else we can do. Again, I don't mind its removal too much, but it does make Catholics even more boring and generic.
It's also better to have fix and established mechanics for religions/government types ingame. Not having it is just confusing.
