why should i give land to my sons?
im curious as to what is the downside to having 'unlanded sons', or i guess also the upside to landing my sons. the game gives me a popup as if i am supposed to land them instead of non blood vassals

you lose prestige if they're unlanded, helps with demese size, and helps those characters build a power base if you planon having them inheriting anything when you die

You get a penalty to prestige gain for each unlanded adult son under most succession systems, but it's quite small and you can ignore it without suffering too badly.

You get a small prestige penalty for unlanded sons. There is also the risk that one of them becoming an adventurer and trying to take your titles. Landing you familiy also create alliances and increase your overall dynastic prestige.

This is a dynasty game. You get more points for having family members who are 'Landed' aristocracy. If you want to 'win' the game, concentrate on your dynasty and not how much land your ruler has. Just a friendly tip. :diplomacy:
i never give my kids land i hold onto my empire with a iron fist to keep rebels down its nessesary of u want to rule a big empire

NEVER land your intended heir. He will get bad traits.

Depends on my characters traits. If I've had them acting like a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥, no land for you. If not, what do you want, son?

If I'm playing feudal, iqta or tribal I usually land them. Aside from other advantages, you get huge dynasty prestige if you do.

Ok. I'm posting a screenshot of one of my earlier games so you can see what kind of score one can achieve playing a 'dynastic' game. :ambition:

I've played hundreds of games in my 11,000+ hours, these are just a few I took pictures of (for my friends). I play all games on Very Hard, Ironman mode.

Peace. :diplomacy:

Before anyone asks, the hours are real. I am retired, disabled, my kids are grown, my wife travels a LOT, and I love games. THIS IS WHAT I DO. :spaceduck:

when you give your sons land, does it become hard to keep their heirs as allies down the line? or is it easier / the same as keeping the heirs of your vassals as allies?
Neshamah Jul 28, 2015 @ 12:54pm
I have not found my relatives any more difficult than other vassals. Just keep plenty of money on hand and don't forget to schmooze now and then. :ambition:

Edit: Oh yeah, a GOOD spymaster helps too. ;-)
