Why no one is playing CK2 ?
I just bought this game and i found very interesting that only 6.000 people are playing this on steam. Same with EU4. Both are extremely good games and i cant believe that no one bats an eye to these games. I mean there are 7 billion people on earth, isnt it too underrated ?

ck2 takes a very long time to play, I usually don't bother with it if I don't have the day off work. A single hour of play is never enough.

The game is underrated. The problem is that not many people know of this game, not many people are fans of this grand strategy, and not many people are willing to go through the long process of learning how to play it. :ambition:

Ja its intimidating. On average games now days are 40 hours long where this games on average takes about 40 hours to learn before you really start playing.

If you count the 3 year olds and the 70 year olds. Surely you can't blame them for not playing ;)

There are only 125 million active steam users. Paradox has sold over 1 million copies of CKII. CKII is 3 years old with +/- 6000 players at any given time. Considering CKII is a grand strategy game with a huge learning curve time I'de say it's a huge success.

Ask yourself... Where is Watch Dogs, Assassin's Creed Unity, Shadow of Mordor and other games that came out a year ago or less? I don't see them in the top played.

It's a hard game. I've 600+ hours and i still use the fourm for help. I still learn things on this and EU4.

It's not that hard, once you've got a grip on the key features the rest of it is just a learning experience with minor details that pop up that you may not know, but over all it's relatively easy. Infact it's considered a Paradox "Casual" Game by most Paradox Grand Strategy players. Victoria II was a game I never got into due to the pops and all of the what nots that made managing large empires entirely too complex. The Hearts of Iron series on the other hand isn't hard to survive but is nearly impossible to win, as attrition batters your forces unrelentlessly every time you commit blitzkrieg and wears away at your grand war machine.

Overall, what I mean to say, is that Crusader Kings II is a fairly easy game if you can dedicated five hours to ten hours or so into learning it.

Totally agree with what you said. However, the fact that "it's not that hard once you've got a grip" is what puts a lot of people away from the game. Even though it is indeed fairly easy in comparison to other Paradox games, it is still hard enough for not dedicated first-timers.

Well, that's their problem if you ask me. Paradox games can live without the feint hearted.

After all, when you come down to it, the people who prefer to put no effort into the game at all will never be able to enjoy a good strategy game, and if the developers simplify it so much that it takes no thought at all, it becomes boring to the dedicated players as it is no longer a 'strategy' game. When I feel brain dead I go play something like Battle Field 4, I dont play a strategy game expecting to be able to win and not dedicating any thought into it. That would be as silly as playing a puzzle game expecting to not have to solve puzzles.

Most Paradox games Like CK2 and EU4 are not for kids either. They are not point and shoot games with instant rewards. They our time comsuming and take some smarts to play.

I bought the game and all the DLC for it on the recent summer sale and I have put in 12 hours so far and I am just barely scratching the surface of what I need to be able to say, "I know how to play CKII"

With most of my other games in my Steam library, which is vast, I have basically mastered the game after 12 hours of gameplay. This is the main reason I love CKII it is going to be a game that lasts me a very, very long time.

you Mastered CK2 in 12 hours or your other games?
Because it's a niche game?

It's by an indie development studio?

It's extremely complex?

It's about a topic that most people don't give a ♥♥♥♥ about?

Did you actually read my post? It clearly says that after 12 hours of gameplay in CK2 that I am "barely scratching the surface of what I need to know to be able to say "I know how to play CK2"

So no I am a very long ways off from mastering it which is why I think it is a well made game and should last me a very long time before I get bored of it.

Edit:

Also to the OP, you can usually tell how much a game is still played on Steam by how busy the forum is and this forum is very busy...
