Only Orthodox Player for the Roman Empire?!
I was playing a game where my goal was to reform the Roman Empire starting as the Duke of Salerno in 867. I was up to king of Sicily and decided to look at the Roman Empire's page (Where it has the claimants tab, the history tab, etc.) and discovered that it can only be held by Orthodox players.

WHY?

There's a reason they call it "Roman Catholic". Furthermore this is rather arbitrary and I'm annoyed that effectively it means that only Byzantines can rule Rome. Historically, Rome fell because the barbarians overcame it, but that doesn't mean they were beyond reforming it.

Please change that, Paradox.

The catholic version of the Roman Empire is the Holy Roman Empire...

More like Greeks, especially after the 600s.

They viewed themselves as romans and called themselves romans. The term "Byzantine" came up in the 19th century.

I believe all Christian denominations can create the Roman Empire, but you have to be Byzantine Emperor in order to get the decision. You don't create it via the title screen.

Also, it's called Roman Catholicism because it accepts the primacy of the Bishop of Rome (the Pope) over the other patriarchs.

Yea Catholics should not really be allowed to form it. Orthodox Christianity is the only type of Christianity Rome ever experienced. In 867 there would not even really be a pope, he would of just been a slightly more independent patriarch.

Catholics can form the Latin Empire, and that may be able to reform Rome.

That's wrong: the Roman Empire can only be formed by the Byzantine Emperor, but any Christian can hold that title.

Case in point, during one game I played as Charlamange and married the daughter of the Byzantine Emperor. Then all of my wife's older brothers and nephwes died off, and the Byzantine Throne went strait to my Catholic Son.

When Charlemange died, his son Clovis Karling was Emperor of the Francian AND Byzantine Empires. A few holy wars later, I had all the required titles and forged the Restored Roman Empire as a Frankish Catholic.

The only cheats I used was to kill off my wife's nephews and older brothers, and to imprison the Muslim Shieks so I wouldn't have to lose my holy wars to Pan-Islamic Doomstacks.

Not so. Orthodoxy split from the Catholic church in 1056. This was a result of worsening relations between the East and West, but stemming from the appointment of Charlemagne as "Emperor of the Romans".

Also, while it says on the title window that it can only be held by an Orthodox player, it can be held by Catholics. (According to some basic YouTube research.)

Hmmm....

The Byzantine Empire was the Roman empire. The Western half fell and all political continuity in the West was lost. The East, however, was a direct political and legal continuation of the Roman empire. Also, it was more than just Greek. The Byzantine Empire had an extremely diverse population which spoke many different languages. Of course the Empire saw a lot of change in the thousand years after the West fell, but this is no different than the Republic morphing into the Early Empire. Adaptation was a staple of Roman ingenuity. It is also worth mentioning that the reason it's called Roman Catholic has nothing to do with the Roman Empire, but rather the religious power in the CITY of Rome.
