Why does he want me dead?
Charlemagne sees me as a rival, and I don't understand why.

Everything between Central Spain and the Kingdom of Poland is his. I'm an insignificant little count who owns exactly one castle on the east bank of the Rhine. Even if he succeeds in killing me, I have several children. And even if he succeeds in killing all of them, the county seat goes back to the duke whose vassal I am. So it can't be because he's trying to get my land.

I'm not a competing heir for any estates. I've no claims against anything. I haven't plotted against him, neither have I gone to war against him. Even so, he wants me dead.

My excellent chancellor has improved relations to where Charlie's opinion of me is at 89, even with the -100 rival penalty. And yet he still refuses to stop plotting my death.

Why? It makes absolutely zero sense.

You must have rubbed him the wrong way, Emperors can be sensitive

Check his opinion modifiers with you. Should explain a lot.

Becoming smb rival is sometimes a result of random events.

Assassinate him instead. Give him a taste of his own poison.

If you have Way of Life, pick war focus and duel him. He will probably slay you if he wins, but then you will also be able to kill him if you win :)

Actually, no. I didn't seduce his wife. But HE SEDUCED MINE! The bastard.

Your character would have declared him a rival then (I'm pretty sure that's automatic). And so he considers you a rival too. Check his page, if he has the seduction focus he probably has a bunch of rivals.

Not much you can do. But if no one else (in your court/other vassals of your direct liege/ your own vassals can all join in I believe.) dislikes you then there's not much chance they'll succeed in assassinating you.

My two-timing wife poisoned my wine. I've got a 14 year-old son who inherited my estate. Charlie considers him a rival too. WTF?

I guess he is still pissed off by the fact that she bore your children and not his :D

Good luck with that.

He hates you as a rival so try to remove that. I am not sure if it works, but choose the corousing WOL and corous the ♥♥♥♥ outahim. He will eventually be forced to love you.

Well...thing is...I like to role play my characters. So, my WOL choices match my characters' traits as much as possible.

I'm not complaining about Charlie's hate-on for me, I'm just trying to understand why.

Its cause your rivals. Being rivals or friends overide opinion massivly, so i recomend buddying up with people that don't like you to much and get a good loyal spymaster.
