Changing A Dynasty name that was created in the Ruler Designer.
I created a custom ruler inside the game using the "Ruler Designer DLC"

I however do not like the name I chose for the Dynasty/Family.

I was wondering if there was anything I could do to change it? Within the console of by editing files perhaps?

It would need to affect everyone in the dynasty alive or dead and not only effect the main character/my ruler.

Can this be done?

If you have the costumization DLC you can change both dynasty crest and name if you are the top liege of all members of the dynasty. Go to your character page, click on your dynasty crest, in the top right. This will open the Dynasty tree. There should be an icon of a shield on the top left, next to the Dynasty crest.

----------------------------- EDIT: doesn't work --------------------

If you don't have the DLC or you aren't the top liege of all dynasty members you could open savefile with notepad(++), make sure it is uncompressed by unchecking the box before saving! Ctrl+H for regular notepad. Ctrl+F for notepad++ and go to the replace tab.

Find: <Dynasty name>
Replace by: <New dynasty name>

And hit "change all". Not sure this will do the job or screw things up since I've never done this before. Better make a backup of save first. If you try this get back to me if it worked ^^'

I didn't even know there was a DLC for this but I still decided I'd try what you suggested as I do have notepad++.

The files are a mess; for example:

œH!¼‰¼ ´(ÚÚ+muûý®9÷.;¶Âçéôþ?S¡¨2‰ÆÁ?Õ±Qib¿»

Maybe that's something to do with the compression you mentioned; I don't really know.
Can't quite figure it so i bought the DLC. I appreciate your help Falk0

I'd actually appreciate that; I may have the DLC but still being able to open and view the save files may prove VERY helpful.

Next time ensure that when you save you untick "compress save files" option. Otherwise you will get an encrypted file

WARNING!

Editing savefile to change Dynasty name did not work after testing. It's either not possible at all or I am missing something. Will need someone with more knowledge of savefile editing to validate.

I believe you also need to modify dynasties.txt, but I am not sure about that

Just did it with Notepad++.
A dynasty created on the Ruler Designer already should have a special dynasty number
and that easily be editable. Only change the name at the dynasty number here (example):
10295218= { name="Kuman" culture="cuman" coat_of_arms= { data= { .....

..and change "Kuman" to whatever.

Just did it with a "Karling". First named him "Bobo" in Ruler Designer, saved, quit and edited the save file from "Bobo" to "Mumu", restarted , loaded, all fine.
