As for the mod, I've never played it myself but it looks very well done. Can't really say whether it's better or worse than warband as the two are completely seperate (like asking if Civ has better gameplay than Skyrim, there's just no comparing factors).
I can tell you with certainty though that CKII would be more focused around court intrigue and personal relations rather than Warband's focus on warfare and exploration.
They're... Not similar games. Although they are closer than Skyrim and Civ :P. Mostly just because they both have a feudal system.
That mod is wonderful and I actually prefer it over the base game.
But the base game is also wonderful..
IMO< you do not need to watch a single video of any gameplay > and you do not need to take many hours to start enjoying the game. It really doesn't take long. you can also start off into the mod...
As for what is better or whatever, I have never played Mount and Blades or the mods, so I wouldn't know.
But I will admit, the learning curve is greater than most games. But it's not that hard to understand/learn quickly.....
