Best fantasy map?
Okay so I haven't even started this game yet! But I'm relly interested in doing so due to the different fantasty mod's on offer. I'm not partiicularly a massive fan of historiacl RTS games, however I am a huge fantasy fan.

I've taken a look at some of the mods on offer such as the GoT, Middle Earth and Elder Scrolls mods that are available.

I was just wondering if certain one's played better than others or you had any suggestions on which world to go with!

Finally this is the first Paradox RTS I've ever tackled, I understand that they can be pretty 'inside baseball' as the saying goes, so c'mon best tips for a complete noob?

Cheers guys

This is a helpful start for Crusader Kings: http://crusaderkings-two.wikia.com/wiki/How_to_lose_Crusader_Kings_2 :D:

Best tip would be to start a game, screw up terribly, watch a let's play by someone who knows what they're doing then get back in the game and do a little better.

As long as you're having fun that's all that matters.

I haven't tried the fantasy mods yet but I've heard the GoT mod is really cool. I'd say the game mechanics should work perfectly for that setting (all the cloak and dagger stuff).

GoT has more modders working on it and is extremely popular (havent played it myself)

elder kings takes a long time between updates (small team) but i personally enjoy it and it has plenty of content

middle earth is still early in development and has some rough edges (havent tried recent updates though) but looked like it had a lot of potential if you dont mind the restricting "good versus evil" setting

Honestly, if you find Game of Thrones compelling, there's no excuse for not finding the European middle ages compelling too!

Play as King Konan of Brittany in 1066, who baldly boasted to William the Bast4rd that as soon as the latter sailed with his army to take England, he'd move in and seize Normandy. And he did, with gusto. Then a week or so later, he put on his riding gloves and dropped dead, because they were full of poison. William, now "The Conquerer" and first Norman king of England, grinned widely, I imagine. Can you forge a better future for Konan's dynasty?

Or play as one of the Jimena sibling-kings in Iberia. Your father left you separate kingdoms, and you all start with no children and thus are each others' heirs. To the south, most of the peninsula is held by the Muslims -- territory ripe for the taking in holy wars, if you can muster the strength to take on their impressive forces. Will you squabble with your brothers, send assassins at each other and press claims on each others kingdoms? Will you marry your cousin, queen of the small but valuable kingdom of Aragon? Will the Jimenas unite their forces and turn their sights south to forge a Catholic Hispania?

Play as Rurik of Holmgardr in 867 -- a lone Norse viking holding a petty kingdom amidst quarrelsome Slavic pagans. Will you adopt the local culture, unite the pagans and play a critical role in the early history of Russia? Will you remain staunchly Norse and turn the tide of cultural history, subjugating Slavs left and right until all of Europe east of the Vistula worships Odin? Can you reform the faith, become Fylkir and launch great holy wars against the Catholics, taking back the Norse holy sites in Germany and Zeeland?

And these just scratch the surface... here are tonnes of ideas, with their historical context: http://forum.paradoxplaza.com/forum/showthread.php?648502-Why-You-Should-Play-As-Any-Particular-Character-in-CK2

Remember, the middle ages are the primary inspiration for Game of Thrones!
