Genius Trait
This trait used to feel like a pretty good chance of being passed on to possible heirs, but now I see more negative traits coming from trying to hook a genius pair up to make babies. Two geniuses equals a better chance at imbeciles for offspring than another genius? Would love to know what the odds are behind this.

No. Only if they are kin.

I have heard that the genetics code of similar people can make it a higher chance to get birth defects or positive traits. As such you might of lucked out and married a genius to a genius that has the same permeutation causing the genius trait to occur. This would be considered very unlikely though. What more likely is your unlucky with births.

It does seem as if genius is passed down less often, even with two genius parents, than in previous game versions. But that might be entirely incorrect and simply a biased perception on our part due to insufficient sample size and randomness. It is also possible that some mechanic has been added which gives a chance of a bad trait being acquired genetically instead of the expected good trait.

The chances of a hereditary trait, good or bad, being passed to the child varies from 5% to 50% depending on the trait. Or it used to vary that much, if they changed it with the last DLC. But a child also has a small chance to pick up a trait, even though neither parent has it.

Inbreeding is an entirely separate mechanic which uses the DNA strings each character is assigned. The string is found in the save file and looks like "sgfjutdghjd". The string is 11 letters and a child inherits 5 from each parent plus a random 11th letter. If too many of the letters in the string are the same, the chance of receiving the Inbred trait increases. Obviously, closely related parents are most likely to share letters, so the chances of the child getting multiples of the same letter increase dramatically as a result. But it can happen due to simple random bad luck if both parents have similar DNA strings, even though they are not at all related.

I have to object.
That used to be the case for genius since..about always.
Might be you think of "inbred" ?

Seems there's a small misunderstanding. What I meant was;

No, having two geniuses be together does not increase the chance of the inbecil trait showing up for their kids. Only if they are kin -- or for some reason have very similar DNA value -- will the chance of bad congenial traits showing up will increase.

Ahhhh used to be the case, but that was changed quite a while ago.
Forgot it. You're right.
Back in a galaxy far away.... :D

Genius trait is rly hard to get in children so if it happens then well done you got lucky, if not then dont worry. If you want a trait that is more likely to pass on then go for either Strong or Quick, had the strong trait get passed on 5-6 times so far then got a genius (from the mothers side)
