but tbh, I'm a little bit coin shy too.
Still, CK2 is sort of monopoly in terms of Dynasty Role play.
There is just no other competitor.
So here's what you do; Buy base game, play it and if you enjoy it pick a few expansions up every time there is a sale.
Bided my time then a few weeks later Humble had everything up to Charlemagne 80% off.
Bought that recently, there are just 2 major DLC missing namely Charlemagne and Horse Lords but you can certainly live without them.
I also bought Way Of Life separately but i think that does more harm than it enhances the gameplay, mostly because of the excessive Seduction Focus everyone in your realm will soon have STDs and try to kill each other.
However the standalone price of the game with all DLCs is absolutely NOT worth it by any means. They really should move to another DLC policy, like new customers should get all the previous DLCs for the price of one just like you already do get during steam sales.
And what i find totally unacceptable is that the DLCs themselves are also further split into sub-DLCs, if you buy one (gameplay) DLC you also have to buy the music/clothing/units/portraits separately.
And if they were bundled together you'd have people complaining, too, accusing Paradox of forcing them to buy DLC they don't want. Damned if you do, damned if you don't.
Paradox separating cosmetic DLC from everything else so you have more options is unacceptable? Ridiculous.
In that i can soothe your soul. Without the LoR DLC the AI won't have any retinues either.
Only if you had saved a game where the AI already had retinues, then it will still have them when you reload without LoR, but can't build any.
I say retro perception bias...or somesuch, but i see no reason to argue about it.
