This game has a very high learning curve. Like months or even potentially years to learn all the mechanics. Best advice I can give is watch Let’s Plays and just experiment around in game with different things. You will eventually learn how the mechanics work if you stick with it. A good place to start is Ireland.

To help with the specific issue you mentioned of declaring war, once you declare war, you have to raise levies. You can do this by clicking on each county and raising levies, or by going to the Military tab and raising levies there. You will see your units appear in the counties you control. You can also raise vassal levies as well the same way (it will specify if you are raising vassal levies or your own). Vassals will get more aggravated with you the longer you use their army. You have to wait until after declaring war to raise levies. Select the unit to move them on the map. You can combine units and also assign commanders as well to optimize your army.

You can also have a personal retinue of units that are always raised and available, even with no war declared. They are raised via the Retinue tab in the military section. They cost prestige instead of ducats.

Uh? Really? I thought the tutorial was fine. I manged to grip the basic's in about thirty minutes or so. Now if this was Hearts of Iron III and below, I would def understand the pain >_>

I don't remember how the tutorial was as I started years ago but I know it took me 15-20 hours to get around with the most important things allowing me to play as I want.

I play +4 speed and pause a lot. When declaring war, just look at who is joining it, and when you open leader's character screen (your enemy's) you see their possible troop size (minus event spawned). If it's a holy war, some 40000 might easily join against you, or not. But if it's de jure or holy war on a rebellion, then it's 1v1. If a pagan tribal has a lot of prestige or even piety, he might be able to summon event troops. Money mercenaries is already calculated in the character screen.

I never played the tutorial, but i played other Paradox titles before and it's all the same.
Tutorial helps to learn how a Paradox game funtions, but to learn the actual game, you have to try, watch Let's Play and read, read, read ... .
If i want to know something, i use google and type ck2 ... . For most issues you will find help. For more specific questions use the forum. Have fun!

I have also never played the tutorial. CK2 is similar enough to CK1 to just play it and learn/read about differences while playing.

Yeah. Tutorial sucks... You really have to learn by playing... And yes that means making a lot of mistakes at first.

Don't play the tutorial, It's a waste of time. The best way to learn is by watching some Youtube series or just playing by yourself and clicking. The curve's difficult but with 50 hours I can say that I got the basics and can enjoy the game just too much.

After 15 expansions, I'm amazed the tutorial works at all.

After finishing the tutorial, you know some of the basics of this game.

Some people consider the first 1000 hours the tutorial. Because that is when you learn how to play.
