How to create Mercenary Band?
I've got the Conclave DLC and have absolutely no idea of how or where to create a mercenary band.

That's useless. I already looked there, it only says you can create, not how. I already have a courtier with a military education but I see no prompt to actually make a mercenary band with him.

He has to be a Brilliant Strategist, I believe. I used one of my own dynasty. You right-click on the character you want to create a band with. It should have the option in the list.

I should mention that creating one is very costly in terms of manpower. They will take the men for the company from YOUR holdings. This puts a constant drain of men on each of your baronies. Further, they will come back every few years and ask for more men -- they get a negative modifier if you refuse.

Thanks! The wiki should definitely be fixed if it's a Brilliant Strategist you need, because I had a Skilled Tactician and nothing was showing up (the wiki just says 'Military Background'). I'll try now.

Do these mercenaries at least get the Adventurer Trait?
Neshamah Feb 14, 2016 @ 10:19am
Not in my experience. In fact, sometimes the leader of the band won't have the skills you'd think a merc leader should have. And, my dynastic hold over the mercs ended with the death of the guy I founded it with.

Now, disbanding the mercs might generate an Adventurer (the current leader of the band). I haven't tried this out yet, but I may soon because of the increasing drain on my own levies.

Edit: Also, the leader of the band has a pretty good chunk of cash. Perhaps I'll net that when I disband them. I'll let you know. :happy_creep:

You mean where you can see how much the band is earning you? You can check that in the same screen that shows you your income and expenditure. But the earning will only appear when they are hired, and it might take a little while for the game to update the page.

Wasn't able to create band regardless, there isn't such an option.. even if the courtier is a Brilliant Strategist. I'm playing as the Fylkir and Emperor of Scandinavia, Norse. Maybe that has something to do with it?

It's possible. I didn't play the game with conclave for too long, but when I created my mercenary band I was a catholic feudal lord (a duke).

I think you would have to be feudal, but I don't have the DLC so I don't know.

I believe this to be the case, as well.

I'm Feudal and an Elective Aristocratic Empire. The only thing I feel could be preventing me from creating a mercenary band is being Norse (reformed). My personal levies sit around 7k and I have an income of over 30 ducats or whatever currency a Norse ruler uses per month. I'm literally clueless as to what conditions I need to have for the 'Create Mercenary Band' prompt to show up - maybe I'm too big?

No, your size doesn't have anything to do with it. You can create a band as a count if you wish, but the drain on your levies would make this untenable.

I honestly don't know why you can't create a mercenary band. With all the information you have provided, it doesn't seem to make any sense at all. Sorry.

Edit: This is a really, really, stupid question, but are you sure you have the DLC enabled ?

Yes, I have it enabled :-/. I've been using all of the other Conclave mechanics extensively, and while I don't even care that much to have a mercenary band, I did want to try the feature regardless.
