How to stop Viking raids (this is what i do)
somtimes cheating is justified.
i dont use consol commands much but playing as any nation espacially in the english isles is completely frustraiting with these viking ass hats endlessly raiding land. There is absolutly no feesable way to stop them without cheating. The only options i hear or have thought of myself are not logical or even woth the hassle so....

Its talked about alot and i have yet to see anyone come up with a good solution so i have come up with my own way to stop them useing cheats and figured i would share it.

---------------so here we go my solution------------

1.As a viking ship approches your shores click the banner on there ship.

2.It will then take you to there domain,on the tab that comes up there is the leader of that ship (The Viking scumbag that is telling that ship to raid you)

3. Use ~ button to bring up consol. type in charinfo (Now whenever you hover over a character portriat it gives there character ID for use in consol comands)

4.Use command religion (character ID of viking leader) catholic. should look like this
religion 194046 catholic

5.PROFIT now you will see the viking ship turn about and leave.and any units moving into your land will stop and return to there ship as a catholic leader will not raid catholic lands.

this also works if you are of another religion just change catholic in the command to whatever you are.

you can also make it less of a hassle clicking every ship. if you see a major viking kingdom on the map click there capitol and use the same consol command to convert there king/leader
it will stop all raids from there direct control.

over the first 20 turns of doing this you will find the raids become less and less frequent the less viking that can raid....eventually with a little luck the pagan norse scum will be converted to catholic or whatever els you want themselves with minimal hassle for you. leaders will die and there sons may start raiding again if they are not converted but through this process they will eventually stop.

downside is all of the viking lands will convert to catholic much earlier and it takes away from the game a bit...but the benefits far outway the immersion effect in my opinion.

Also when bringing up the consol command for a new leader press the up arrow key to bring up last command typed and just change the character ID it makes it less of a pain in the butt

There should be a raiding season that the Norse have to adhere to if they want to cross multiple open sea tiles because as it is, they're still op and just plain annoying. Winter should be off limits for sure, and if they're still pagan by 1066 there should be an event that Christianizes them.

If you're going to all that trouble, why not just disable raiding in the options at game start?

Cheating is not necessary. Yes, early game if you are playing anywhere in the British Isles the Vikings will be all over you like flies on fresh roadkill. Yes, it's frustrating, but it can be overcome with proper planning. If you are playing in Britain with a 769 start, you know it's coming and have a few decades to improve your holdings to increase fort level and levies. You will still get swarmed, but not overrun and most of their raids will be losses.

If you present a hard target, they eventually raid elsewhere.
Honestly if you start at the earliest start, there's more than enough time to persuade them away from raiding you. From what I've noticed, they vastly prefer to raid Andalusia these days, and in my Cill Dara game they stopped bothering me by the year 800 for some reason.

I can count the attempts to raid my Islands on my hand, whereas every other (less developed) region is seeing way more raids.. Could also be attributed to a lot of luck I'm guessing! The aztecs, on the other hand..

wow. you think raiders are annoying as a feudal? try making the whole isles a republic. they wont stop coming after you. but yeah, no need to cheat, just try to convert them either with the book or the sword. raiders are not really a big problem.

yeah that new option screen came with Reaper's Due, but I would imagine it would just not have the epidemic/plague options for those that don't have the DLC yet.

there should be a diplomatic action to bribe that norse ruler to not raid your lands - a temporarily truce. More interesting, being a viking and annoying christians until they give you great amount of gold for a truce, then you break the truce (costing prestige) and raid again

Give the same penalties for breaking a truce after war to breaking a raiding truce.

@DEG

I've tried to summarize various raid defense strategies in a recent post here:

It might be helpful.
