you can revoke titles if your realm has the corresponding law ("limited crown authority" in the base game, or specifically the "title revocation" law if you play with the conclave DLC)
if your character has a legal justification to revoke the title (your character has a personal claim on the title or the vassal is a traitor or something), then your other vassals will accept the title revocation. if you don't have a valid reason, you can still revoke the title, but all your vassals will get a -15 opinion penalty for 5 years (which stacks with itself if you revoke more then 1 title)
After some time in jail he can ask you to free him. One of options if free him in cost of Favor, which is good.
If he has an heir that looks decent, just toss him in the oubliette and let him die.
If he's pretty decent stat-trait-wise, analyze why he's trying to plot against you and see if you can fix it.
What was he trying to do?
Since you're new it's quite possible that you have territory you aren't supposed to and he's simply trying to get what should be his.
It's fairly common for newbie's to hand out territory poorly or get too greedy and hold territory they shouldn't.
Which leads to A LOT of plots and factioning.
I had a claim on the territory. Doesn't that mean that I'm allowed to take it?
If the game says you can take it without invoking tyranny, then yes.
But there's a lot of factors in if it's the right or wrong decision right now.
If you have the demense limit, then sure, it's probably not gonna be issue in the short term, since that means more raw power and more options.
But You could also be spreading yourself too thin, if it's a province futher away from your heart-land.
It could also cause issues if it's the de jure territory of another of your vassals, that they're supposed to own which will just result in them factioning or plotting against you to get it back.
Which DLC introduced the Favor dynamic?
Ahh ok. I'm lazy and STILL have not gotten anything Conclave and later.
