Workshop mods not downloading at all
I have an issue when I subscribe a mod from Workshop it doesn't initiate the download. If it does initiate it, it shows up in downloads but doesn't progress at all. If I restart Steam the download is gone and nothing happens.

I have created 'mod' directory into my /documents/Paradox Interactive/Crusader Kings 2/ and I'm sure that I have read and write permissions there as well.

I have tried subscribing then restarting Steam in administrator mode - then unsubscribing and subscribing again and then waiting for few minutes. Last night I had success with this method and I was able to download couple of mods. However I still don't have everything what I have subscribed from the Workshop.

Today... I haven't been able to initiate a single mod download. I know there is a thread somewhere in the discussion about a procedure what to follow but issue is now that the downloads won't even start.

To add - at least in the past (I haven't tried it recently) I didn't have any issues with Stellaris or HoI4 mods from Workshop, they worked instantly.

I have yet to try external Workshop downloader but I wouldn't want to try this as I want officially supported way and if the Workshop has been implemented to Steam it should work... Right?

Could this be a bug related to the free release? Just something on the Steam side? Just guessing because that's all what I can do at this point.

Thanks!

i understand your frustration.
I stated that i knew it wasnt the answer y'all wanted.
this game needs no mods: the DLC makes it easy enough.

the learning curve for this game ranges from 'go ♥♥♥♥ yourself' to 'too easy' with amost nothing in between.
Why do you assume mods make it easy. The difficulty has nothing to do with it that shows you know npthing about modding. Tell me how option fpor life makesw it easy, or marry family so I can wed my sester makes it easy, or how an Elder scrolls conversion mod makes it easy. You are a tart giant cream filled tart!
That guy is trolling, just ignore him.
He was saying the same thing on another thread to some guy with around 1k hours.

Too add to the aforementioned, yes sometimes after subscribing you have to start the game once before you can select the mod in mod tab. I had hoped folks at least try that before posting here...
Sorry haven't read what others have tipped, but what I usually do is the following:

  • Unsubscribe to the mods not downloading
  • Start CK2
  • Subscribe to the mods again
  • Double check that they are in fact appearing under mods, but unable to activate them
  • Restart the game once every mod has appeared in the mod list (in the launcher)

Haven't had this fail a single time for me yet

However now I need to solve the issue of steam sometimes downloading workshop content. Issue after issue these days.

After trying all kinds of things, I tried to give this one a try...
And it actually works. What the hell CK2? Stellaris, EU4 and HoI4 all have no problems, so strange :wololo:

(FIXED / SOLVED) Thank you so much, I spent 90 minutes trying so many other things and this is the only thing that worked for me. Steam showed 0 bytes downloaded on a mod, then jumped to 'Downloaded 137/137MB' on the mods I wanted, no loading in between.

Open CK2 launcher with no workshop items subscribed
Subscribe to workshop items (steam will stay on 0bytes downloaded)
Look for mod names in the launcher mods menu, but checkboxes won't be there yet.
Close CK2 launcher once all names appear, keep steam running
Open CK2 launcher again
Mod names should now show check boxes and soon the steam downloads page should show completed.

Mine worked quickly because my download size was small, other people might need to try doing some of the middle steps slower for it to work on larger downloads.

so this is a tad late but the article on the steam workshop in the ck2 wiki solved the problem for me.

..
That's a bit general statement, seeing how this thread already includes most if not all the tips there are....so what was the fix or oversight in your case ?

PSA: Okay not all tips, and the download setttings in Steam are of course relevant but weren't mentioned, but should be fairly obvious to a user.

i made a mod file in C:\Users\name\Documents\Paradox Interactive\Crusader Kings then went to the internet downloaded a few ck2 mods. then i started up the game. mod page was opneble. then i downloaded workshop mods, restarted, if it not worked uninstall workshop mod then redownload. do this until the mods get downloaded. have fun :)
