DLC/mods for beginners?
I am fairly new to CK2 (35 hours), and I know there are many others who are also new to the game. What DLC or mods would be worth getting for someone with my low level of experience? I am also fairly new to grand strategy games as a whole.

Way Of Life is the Only real must have DLC IMHO...

Most DLC's in CK2 are what DLC's should be optional content that enhances a certain style of play...

For Instance You want to be a Viking or you want to be a Horse Lord or a Merchant Republic or you want to play as a Muslim...

Those are all their own DLC's to unlock them...

Sure their are some DLC's that enhance generalized play but most of them are some of the newest DLC's like

If you want the best Christian Playthru experience you would likely want...

Charlemagne, Sons of Abraham, Reapers Due, Monks and Mystics, and Holy Fury

Conclave is a special DLC in that While most every DLC PDX every release pretty much enhanced the game and every liked them...

Conclave is a special exception its a DLC that radically changes the base game and for many in not a good way... I myself was not a huge fan of Conclave with Time I came to except it but I still prefer the game without it.... Its not really an upgrade and its not really a down grade it just sorta changes the fruit from being a Banana to an Orange and some people like oranges more then Banana's and some people don't....

The Ruler Designer is garbage unless of course your a person who likes to Cheat and likes to have Achievements disabled...

The Customization Pack is a Very Cheep DLC that gives you all the tools you wanted or hoped the Ruler Designer would give you and it doesn't disable achievments...

I cannot Recommend the Customization Pack enough and cannot say enough bad things about the ruler designer...

So to summarize
Ruler Designer Garbage
Customization Pack Epic

Way of Life is the Only must have DLC

And DLC in general enhance specific playstyles in CK2

The Customisation pack "epic" ?
All it does i a good way to customise coats of arms, change also higher title names and children names. Well for some it may be epic, but.."all the tools you wanted....".. whatever. Not necessarily "epic" for everyone.

DLCs:
Way of Life DLC as mentioned above and in likely most post of similar threads.
All said above as well about Conclave. Can, but no must. Relearning how some things
work differently with it later on isn't really that complicated.

Mods:
Regarding beginners, i can only think of cheat mods if you want to have a little easier way learning the game and prevent frustration getting too much and your head exploding. Okay your head will explode anyway the first few times, but cheats can help. Only problem is that the game won't be as exciting anymore with cheat mods and dealing with surprising challenges is a core part. Big standard cheat mods are for one Sketchy Cheat Menu and second Slvrbuu's Cheat Menu.

At a second thought the Bigger Interface mod is pretty great to increase several windows, which are otherwise pretty small and can be called required.
Can all be found in the Workshop.

Everything else depends on your personal needs, i'd say.

Pretty much this although I'd heavily recommend Legacy of Rome to unlock retinues. No matter who you play as they come in handy...

It might be worth just doing a month subscription just to experiment with the different DLCs activated to see which ones fit you best.

When I first got to grips with the game I jumped straight into getting the DLC that allowed you to play all the different start dates and kingdom types.

Other than the ruler designer (it really is poor) I'd say sunset invasion isn't worth the time or money unless you're into Aztecs 🤷‍♂️

Correction for futur readers: There is NOT one DLC that allows playing all and everything, but several DLc's allowing each playing specific religious groups and government types.

Charlemagne = 769 (Far and Away my favorite start date)
Old Gods = 867
Base Game (Default) = 1066

936, and 1337 = Free Start dates added into the base game (When I have no idea)

Their are additional start dates you can used via a customized game start.
