Crusader Kings II

HALP, I pledged to go on a crusade, but I don't know what I should do!
I've watched a couple of tutorials and tried the learning scenario, but of course, there's still a lot for me to cover.

Thing is, I pledged to join a crusade to get back jerusalem, I think... How do I know what I should do to join a crusade? Do I need to get my army somewhere, or do I help them with money or something? I'm completely lost on this matter, if you can help me, please!!

Thanks in advance. I'll go on playing while we discuss this :p

Don't forget to make your ruler a commander (as long as you aren't scared of them dying). You'll get a cool trait for personally participating in the crusade!
TY Varainger, I'll be sure to read it. Guess I just needed to take some troops and send them oversea towards jerusalem, right? Well, they did it without me, and I only lost 200 piety, which I had earned along the way anyway. The only downside is that the pope is pretty mad at me.

Thank you also! The pope got mad that I didn't joined them at jerusalem, but I was dealing with both a revolt from my stupid brother who refused to rightfully go to prison, and a war against the Aragons, so, hell, ♥♥♥♥ the pope, he excomungated my father anyway, I hate the church!

Yeah, perfect moment to...

Join a heresy !
Conquer the world !
It will be great !

..they said.

PS: yeah , at least joining (and not sending troops) or paying for the crusade should at least have had less bad consequences.

Just a tip make sure you take advantage of crusades they can make you really powerful if you become the biggest contributer. From my experience every time i've won the crusade while being the biggest contributer I got 10k-15k gold 10k-12k prestige and around 5k-6k piety every time. Plus you can also put a dynasty member on the throne or yourself if you're willing to piss off the pope.

Tho I'm playing with Léon Kingdom, which is pretty small to be able to give such huge contribution. 5K was the max ammount of troops I could gather (without adding my vassal levies).

And man, ♥♥♥♥ the pope, seriously. He's excommunicating me with every generation, like, wtf, he just hates my family...

So I'm also playing as Leon. I filled out the window from the banner under my portrait (chose a beneficiary, set a stance, etc.). The crusade started and the entire world raised their levies and started marching East towards (what is today) Turkey. I did too at the same time as everyone else. My troops have just gotten to Greece and the Pope is pissed off that I've not participated yet. Half the world hasn't even gotten there yet. Have I missed anything or is he just a pissy little capullo?

I just finished Crusade for Anatolia as a Kingdom of Jerusalem. I've never seen such a madness in this game - WHOLE world (except Tibet and India) went there. I just waited until attrition took care of them (but they kept on coming!!) - they had multiple 50 000 stacks with only 800 survivors - wiped out whats left and at this point I had like 30% participation. They gave me all Turkey (no threat) 70 000 gold, 53 000 prestige and 31 000 piety. I just started this playthrough (1187 start now its 1195) and theres no point playing more - its too broken.

Had something similar happen to me.. i'm just the count of Dublin but i raised my levies and sent them off to Sicilly where i laid seige to some random counties.... it just seemed like a big free for all.

Anyway, while i'm doing that i get a popup saying the pope is dipleased i did not honour my promise to participate! Wtf!

So clearly i didn't do quite what was required of me. Any ideas anyone?

Get small army close to target before war starts - you have 2 years to prepare. Besides more participation equals more gold, trinkets etc. HoF made crusading very profitable. I think its bit broken >>> see my earlier post.

Make sure you're laying seige to counties that are actually dejure parts of Sicilly. For example if Sicilly is the crusades target and they have land in Italy that land in Italy won't give you participation if you seige it because it's not actually the target of the crusade and won't be gained even if the crusade is successful.

I joined a crusade once, but was too busy fighting my own territorial wars...Needless to say, the Pope was not pleased, and sent me a very angry letter and got slapped with a negative temple vassal opinion modifier.

Was still worth it! xD
