so to answer your question, yes, it works! just make sure to make him legitimate
for a bit more:

Not sure why it didn't work for me then, unless it had something to do with the close timing of the king's death so soon after bastard was born. I did pick to acknowledge him, so I did expect him to be heir instead of brother.
I suspect it was just unlucky timing. I died before the game ran a new check to see who is heir.
The child needs to have the sign with the baby and the BLUE cross on it, to be legitimized.
Huh, I'm going to have to give my current character a bastard to see if it is a blue or red x next to it.
Useful to know.
In the case above, I probably wouldn't have had time to legitimize it before I died, only acknowledge, but useful to know for the future.
I have no option to do that unfortunately. I wonder if it is culture/religion dependant.
I'm playing with random culture/religion on shattered world but my religion seems to be basically a regen of Orthodoxy. I might have ended up with a culture or religion that forbids legitimizing bastards. (Although I don't see that on the descriptions anywhere, but I might have missed it).
Did you acknowledge one ?
Pretty sure the option to legitimize on the character only appears afterwards.
Yes, they are acknowledged, but no option to legitimize them. If this isn't because of religion/culture, I wonder if it's a mod I have installed, I have several. (Although can't imagine any impacting legitimizing bastards).
Update:. I did a Google and found this
"So according to the dynasty_decisions.txt file, only christians can legitimize their bastards after birth"
I'm playing shattered world with random religions. So, it appears to not be an option for me.
Looking ut up..
It's actually:
has_polygamy = no
but i right now have trouble thinking of non-christians who are not polygamous, so it's factually the same. Just a little nitpicking on detail, but good to know for me.
Yeah, and another weird thing I discovered about the 4 wives thing...
I've been playing with random religion via Holy Fury... Which let's you have polygamy...
If you're not the ruler...
I thought it odd that my subjects could all have four wives, but I couldn't.
Turns out that although Holy Fury allows polygamy for your people, you need "Sword Of Islam" DLC to practice polygamy as a non ai character. (Which is a bit weird... But I was able to find infor under a $1 elsewhere... So I went ahead and did and now I have 20 kids, no need for bastards anymore).
