Haha yeah. That short time might be several years despite a good marshal but those troops are a nice little (!) support to your own raiding troops when you get them.
Look for commanders with "Siege Leader" or "Architect" and have them lead. You get quite a bit of money for sieging down a county (generally 75-200 gold), but even better is the chance of capturing courtiers. You can ransom those who can pay, and Great Blot the rest if you're Germanic.
