How to make a copy of an ironman save and how do you edit it.

So I got lucky and became the Aztecs. In my current game I converted to Judaism but I desperately want to find a way to copy the game and edit that one to undo that decision by editing the save file. Does anybody have any thoughts are tips and tricks to do it?

IF with "dominate file" you mean the top folder, then you packed the folder, not the files (you'll see a folder when you open the zip file), which means the files can't be read.
You have to select the files (again, i have done this without the meta file and i'm sure you don't need these) and pack these.

Sounds to me as if this is the core mistake you made, as the packed file is the unreadable.

- Ignore old outdated guides on the web for this or donät take them too seriously.
- Regarding "from the loading screen or from the popup menu the result is always the same the Save file is broken because it was created with random worlds on"
Is that what the info there tellls you ? Ignore info windows there.
They are just generalisations and can be nmisleading, like any other tooltip...
- Don't overthink the whole thing and make it more complicated than it is.
- The is_zeus_save=yes line has nothing to do with ironman.
It only shows that you used the Conclave DLC.

So..anyway....if you don't care about ironman, simply deleting the three lines as you did and then moving the save file unpacked (ignore the meta file) back into your save games folder should be fine. Less hassle that way.

I tried your suggestion and it still failed:
1) I made a fresh copy of the game and moved it out of the save games folder completely
2) I used 7-Zip to extracted the file
3) I deleted the 3 lines you said go ahead and delete and edited my characters religion from Jewish to Aztec (properly typed)
4) After closing out of Notepad++ I confirmed the modifications and tested the file to make sure there were no errors
5) I moved the saved game copy back into my save games file for CK2.
6) I load CK2 and the file still can't load because it is broken.

Either I am missing something or the way you are doing it doesn't guarantee success to ironman games in the middle of the game basically.
