I would not call 'not including Deus Vult in CK3' censorship. Considering it wasn't in CK1 and CK2 for the longest time. Instead I would argue that people who demand it to be added, despite, I repeat once again, it not being in previous games, are the outrage mobs who demand change.
On the other hand I understand the sentiment, the reasons given for not including it are ridiculous, and the recent sexuality dev diary makes me worried as well. But I would also argue that the reasons given for 'removing' (translation: not adding it) Deus Vult come from the mouth of a journalist with an agenda and not from Paradox themselves.
Anyone posting Deus Vault is out of CK3 is posting speculation not fact.
Unless you have an official notice from Paradox saying they removed it, you cannot say one way or another.
As a matter of fact one of the paradox folks posted that the news has been misinterpreted and that is due to newsweek's article claiming the game is using alt right language in CK2. No surprise their, newsweek is part and parcel nothing more than an arm of leftist ideology using whats left of their petty bully pulpit to bully paradox.
Fact is paradox doesnt easily get bullied, and will let the game develop as they see's fit. I seriously doubt they will take any chance to piss off their fan base. Profits will speak louder than news rags not worth lining bird cages with.
I'm not going to post references here, no need, just go google it all and read it.
Give the matter a rest and dont perpetuate speculation. When the game is out we will know.
Give it a break till then.
I'm going to respectfully disagree. If Dues Vult is absent from Crusader Kings 3 then it's clear self-censorship.
That Latin phrase has been in Crusader Kings 2 for some time(as well as the Europa Universalis series if I'm not mistaken) and has been something of a meme associated with Paradox. To my knowledge, they had zero issues with it prior to very recently. So, we know that the potential removal of the phrase isn't due to the developers not liking or approving of it.
The other reason(I know you didn't argue this, but I'm pointing it out in case someone else does) I have heard argued is that the phrase is historically inaccurate(It wasn't used during the Crusades or was only rarely uttered) and that's why PD is considering not including it in the next title. No offense to any who harbor this idea, but it is downright laughable. Aztec invasion? Black magic in the Satanist cults? Custom religions in an age of monotheistic faiths? Gender equality laws in a time where patriarchy was dominant and beyond questioning? Secret Buddhist societies in medieval England? Where was Paradox's zeal for historical accuracy when these were added to the game?
No offense intended, but I don't understand your argument about it not being censorship to remove(or leave out) Deus Vult from CK3 because it wasn't originally in CK2. Take the decision by itself, remove all context, and I could get the argument, but nothing exists alone in a void. Add in everything that's been going on, and it's clear censorship.
I agree that we shouldn't take everything some pot stirring journalist says too seriously. It's Paradox's responses to it that have me worried as they were quite vague. PDX is keeping their options open and that's concerning for obvious reasons.
You are SIX MONTHS late to the party....
what head dev said to the article the original claim was made in by a journalist :
source:
https://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2019/10/19/crusader-kings-3-is-happening-heres-ten-things-we-know-so-far/
The journalist is a politicalcorrectness-idiot, but that's more or less irrelevant regarding Paradox itself.
Thats outrageous.
It is not the fact that they remove it or not include it, it is the reason why.
The reason why is ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥, everyone knows it and that is why I am pro deus veult.
Now, there have indeed been some sounds that deus veult is not accurate and should actually be replaced by something else similar (I believeit is in vulgar-latin instead of latin).
Anyways, it is self censorship for the wrong reasons... (maybe with the right intention)
