Crusader Kings II

Game is crashing my computer
I got a new computer (Cybertron Set) and its running great until I try and boot up CK2. It runs the game for a few minutes, the screen wigs out and then blacks out and after a minute or so I get a "no signal" message up on my monitor.

Seems to be happening to a lot of people on all of the paradox games. Keeps happening to me on both CKII and Stellaris. Only solution paradox seems to have come up with is to "start the game in offline mode"..... Personally, I'm going to wait until they figure out what the hell is going on and actually fix it.

Could this be an issue with the newer updates to Windows 10? It used to happen to me constantly, and then a couple of months back, I switched OS, and have only CK2 crash once (and that may have been overheat due to room temp).
I had a blue screen of death a couple times while playing Crusader Kings recently too. Also have Windows 10 here on an Alienware PC from Dell.

Could be... but I'm not having issues with any other games and the Paradox devs put out that in order to fix this you have to play offline. So it might be an issue with a steam update changing how syncing works rather then a windows update. We'll just have to wait and see if Paradox finds an actual fix for this or not.

I'm not getting the blue screen. I'm getting a full hard crash like the OP. Even got to the point where I almost had to do a full recovery. Is literally only happening with Paradox games, not any others. So I'm not risking it again until they fix it.
I wasn't getting crashes with any other game, either, just CK2. Other Paradox games were working fine, and yeah, system always wigged out completely, most of the time I had to do a hard reset to get it back. The PC I had before this one barely had the RAM to even run CK2, but I don't remember ever having it crash, and with the "new" PC, sometimes I could play for 5 hours, sometimes 5 minutes before it would act up. That's why I wondered if it was a Win 10 issue?

Seems to be all of my Paradox games. Stellaris full crashed my computer about 6 times, and CKII about 10 times before I finally said "♥♥♥♥ this". I've had the same computer that I bought brand new in 2015 or 2016 (ASUS G20 ROG) and never had an issue like this before.

It could be a Win 10 issue, but considering Paradox's recent track record or Steam's constant updates it could be either of them too. Just seems too odd that it only effects Paradox games for it to be something as broad as Win 10 causing it. Too focused of a bug on a specific gaming company to be a coincidence. I mean, if it was happening to at least one of my other games I'd consider Win 10 to be the cause, but it is literally only Paradox's games....

Bluescreens are indicative of a more serious issue. Bluescreens are caused by problems with your OS, drivers or hardware. Games cannot cause bluescreens, they can only expose the issues that your system has. To correct these you'll probably want to run some system diagnostics as well as update your OS and drivers.

Blue screens, yes, these hard crashes are something else. I've even got people commenting on the Stellaris forums saying that they are having the same issues that only started recently and only on games linked to Paradox.

Something is up, especially since it's multiple people all at the exact same time with the exact same issues on different rigs. Only commonality is Win10, Steam had an update, and we all have it only happening on strictly Paradox titled games.

Been running tests all morning and so far it's nothing to do with any drivers (did a full reinstall on all of my drivers and all it did was stop the initial hard crash, the game still hard freezes and you're forced to restart the computer), tried upping power from normal to high performance in the ASUS Command to boost my CPU, debating at the moment on either doing a full Win10 reinstall (which will take all day) or just waiting for Win 10 update 2004 which is coming out May 28th.

After this, I'll just take it as a loss till someone much better than me at computers figures out an actual fix.

I really wish I had the computer knowledge to help here, but I'm limited to vaguely remembering how to program in BASIC. I run Steam Beta (or do I mean experimental? Either way, the one that updates a lot more than usual), could it be something to do with that, I wonder?
My OS and drivers are up to date. I've run support assist a few times and it's told me my software and my hardware is fine. This only happens with CK2, I've tried Civ IV and Conan Exiles with 0 issues and no performance problems.

It seems to be something going on with the character screens, that's when I get the crashes/huge fps drops. The screen usually starts switching between the game and a pure black screen when my pc is about to crash, and every time while I was looking at the character information menu. The longer the game has been running, the more likely this is to start happening.

I was planning on putting this game back on my computer and getting into it again, but then I read this thread. I notice there have been no additions in several days and am wondering about the status of this potential problem. I'm assuming it is not widespread if everyone has stopped discussing it, but I'm wondering if anyone has any additional information. Is it a rare problem? Was there a fix? Thanks.
It probably depends on setup. I didn't notice it until one week ago and it is still happening. My computer starting spazzing out yesterday then crashed and gave me a video error. It only happens for me during entering the character info menu for other characters though. Usually after playing for several hours.
If anyone got an Nvidia card, you could update it to 446.14. That fixes a crash issue.
If that doesn't help, maybe reverting to an older driver could.
edit : The same might be true for AMD, going by the content of a recent update.

Apart from that it could be a good idea to verify that directX 9 and visual c++ 2010 and 2015 iinstallations are not broken, through a Windows update for instance.

I haven't looked back into yet as I've been playing the hell out of Witcher 3 since these crashes started (Been playing it on the highest settings, which just goes to verify further that this and Stellaris were indeed the ONLY games that I had this crashing issue with). I will try again later and see if I'm still having any crashes.
