Does meritocracy work with seniority?
I've looked on the wiki and through discussions on here, but can't seem to find an answer. I just want to know if I should go for it or if I should stick with elective gavelkind until I can get ultimogeniture or primogeniture.

meritocracy works with most succession laws that aren't some form of elective (EG, FE, Tan, PE, IS).

You just need to make sure that your gender law is compatable with the person you're trying select, since only the main gender are eligible for meritocracy.

i.e. Agnatic-Cognatic can't select women via meritocracy, since it's male preference.

Open and Nomadic succesion I don't recall if they work with it or not, since i don't use those very often and pretty much never have Meritocracy when I do.

it does not work with open laws (maybe nomadic is different) but when you are the religious head of a reformed religion and that title is your main its always open (cant be changed their are no options for it) and meritocracy shows as an option but its greyed out and unable to trigger on your kids

No. Gavelkind, primogeniture, ultimogeniture and open only.

Open is exclusive to muslims & reformed religions with one of the clans doctrines. So most of the time you won't have open succession as a religious head of a reformed religion. Besides, the religious head title doesn't have a separate succession law, it just follows your primary title.

the religious head title follows your primary titles succession laws but when it is your main title you have no choice but to be open and either agnatic egnatic or absolute congnatic (depending on the docs you selected)
