How do you name your characters?
I would like to know if other players name their characters in a special way or if they just use the autogenerated names at birth. And if you name them, how do you name them?
I like to give my firstborn and second born a specific name, like Elias and David. Then I have Elias I, II, III IV, ... And if Elias dies befor inheritance, the new line of kings is named David, until David dies befor inheritence, etc.
I also used to name characters after myself, but somehow it sounded weird, so I stopped eventually.

I had a chain going where I'd name kids Urist and Uristia for boys and girls. At the time, I didn't realize that I didn't need to put II and III in there manually, so their names turned out to be Urist III III. I went ahead and said ♥♥♥♥ it and continued the chain up to VIII.

I usually toss in a few names for RP purposes, but mostly I just go with the cultural, auto-generated names. :diplomacy:

Edit: A Khazar nomand named Beaumont would just 'break immersion' for me. :steamfacepalm:

I mix RP and cultural immersion by only choosing names that I like from my culture - usually try to use names from ancestors in the family tree.

It depends. One generation is named after Justice League members.

Same here! I tend to introduce some custom culturally linked names in the beginning of the dynasty and am always pleasantly suprised when down the line I see the names resurface every now and then! I personally also like to introduce names from the mother's culture, if the child is not the result of a matrilinial marriage (retaining the voided culture in name).

I just use the auto-generated names, unless I get something like "Dub-dá-Lethe" or "Der-bForgaill". At those times, I keep reloading the intrigue tab to get random names from the invite courtier decisions until I find one I like. Which could take a while, since I don't know how to type letters with accents, so any names with those won't work.

For names I like to roleplay a little bit and name them according what my current character typically would.

So a son might be named after my character's friend or brother or father or grandfather or mentor. If my character is zealous or otherwise a pious person than my children might have the names of saints. If my character is ambitious or has big dreams for the dyasty than the heir will be named after a past great person. Additionally, I will make a point to never name my children after a rival character.

For example, I was playing one game as Tancred, Duke of Galilee (one of the few crusaders in the First Crusade who wasn't a bloothirsty murderer [he even tried to save civilians from the other crusaders during the Sack of Jerusalem]). So I named my first son Adhemar, after a Bishop who participated in the First Crusade in real life. The next son was named Bohemond (after Tancred's uncle who joined the Crusade).
