CK2 Price
When was the last time CK2 was on sale? I have been thinking about buying the game but if it has not been on sale in some time I might wait for one. And what DLCs do people recommend?

That hasn't been true for several years now. 50% was the recent standard, apart from the base game. Only on the anniversay early february did the Paradox store have everything for 75% as in the early few years of the game and that wasn't the case on Steam or anywhere else, as far as i know.

Not directed at you particularly, but here's some deep lore for those interested.

Yeah, Paradox pulled some interesting sleight of hand with the game's pricing a couple years back. Initially, they tried raising the base price in certain countries to (insert PR spin here/ make more money), the community revolted, so they "reversed" those changes. Only now, instead of raising the prices they just nerfed the sales across the board from 75% off to 50%. That 50% off price should always be considered the actual value btw. If this game isn't on sale, don't even consider buying it at sticker price. Most people know to wait for the sale anyway, but now more than ever, it's worth mentioning.

You can buy it from other sellers for a steam key and it's dirt cheap. The thing you want to watch out for it is a sale to pick up the DLC's, which typically go to 75% off for a lot of them.

Fanatical has a sale currently, but only on a handful DLCs .

Regarding frequency on Steam, see here for The Old Gods DLC as example

I don't think it's ever below 50% on Steam recently but it was 75% off on the Paradox store during the aniversary sale.
The author of this thread has indicated that this post answers the original topic.

I really should have got it when they had it for free. Thanks for the posts everyone, i'll just wait for a sale cause I wanted to get a few DLCs with it also. The early start date and a few RP things.

Thanks again all.

I don't actually recommend getting any dlc, or at least turning it on, when you start. Every dlc makes the game more complicated, and you will spend a long time just learning the basics. Also the early start dates definitely have some starts, but they are much less beginner friendly. The Charlemagne start has most of the map controlled by just a handful of realms, and Europe will probably devolve into an absolute mess in an generation. This means you can't really count on anything, and you could have an easy time, or you could get rolled over by someone far stronger than you. The Old Gods start basically has two options: playing as a viking or constantly getting harassed by the vikings. Vikings are fun, but they aren't exactly an accurate representation of how the rest of the tribals or anyone else plays. After you got a playthrough done, then consider introducing some dlc (just don't introduce it to in progress runs, that can cause bugs).

I don't have that much of an opinion on the DLC issue, but I couldn't agree more on the starting date. I'd personally recommend starting as a Catholic ruler in the 1066 High Middle Ages start date. That way you can learn the basics on how to manage and expand a realm without the constant overhanging risk of being holy warred or invaded out of existence.

Ireland in 1066 is supposed to be newbie island (haven't tried it myself, but it sounds about right). Ireland in 867 is a hard struggle not to be a ♥♥♥♥♥ for the Norsemen, and 769 is about three decades before the situation is the same.
