Byzantium and Rome are stupid

Ok. So, I let the Byzantine empire get gobbled up by the Muslims, then I gobble it up myself and now I'm the Byzantine Emperor, then I'm the Roman emperor. In both cases, inheritance laws are set to absolute cognatic. So...why is the heir the Rome some granddaughter not of my dynasty in Bohemia while everything else is going to my regular heir? And no, the Born in the Purple mechanic (god I hate that thing) doesn't apply because neither of that granddaughter's parents were ever emperor (obviously).

It just doesn't make any sense. Especially since I'm NOT getting the "title loss on succession" warning at the top of the screen.

CK3 better fix these stupid little things. Sheesh.

That is indeed strange.

And no warning about title loss. The game knew all titles go to the same character. Seems like a bug with the displayed heir for only one title.

If it is not ironman and you still happen to have a savegame: The result of "recalc_succ" might be interesting.

The only thing about succession and Byzantium is born in the purple. Which can hardly apply if you noticed the "wrong" succession immediately after creating the Byzantine Empire. The Roman Empire does not care about born in the purple at all.

I agree, but at the time I didn't know if it was a bug, or something about Born in the Purple I didn't know (my granddaughter would have been the only one born AFTER I'd become emperor of Byzantium, so maybe it scooted down a generation? Who knows).

But, with a small application of infanticide, all is right with the world, and this guy can die in peace.
