Tribal money gain?
A lot of people recommended playing as Mumu in Ireland.
I have been trying to play this but for whatever reason it always ends up in me with either being negative gold or less than 10 gold. A lot of youtube vids I watch they have all these things which I assume are part of the DLC's they have. I just have base game. I also see a lot of people have lots of items in the Intrigue menu yet mine never changes no matter what I do.

So how do you gain money in base game CK2 as a Tribal group?
**Edit** When googling around I did see a lot of replies to the quest being "Raiding" via clicking on the Axe and Torch menu. For me I can not do this as I always have 1 X and cant seem to remove it

The answer IS raiding and you might be looking at the wrong button if it shows an X, there are instances when an army can't raid (when it has event-troops in it for example) but then the button should grey out imo.

And just as a sidenote, the recommendation to play Mumu in Ireland as a first game is ment for the 1066 start (the original CK2 startdate). Its still not a bad starting place in other times but you might face some problems, for example in the charlemagne and viking start you might get targeted by planned invasions of viking chiefs wich can be pretty hard to defend against.

Are you declaring war before trying to raid?

Raiding can't be activated while at war. (You don't need to be at war for raiding).

As tribal Mumu being at war or trying to enable raiding while non-looter troops (Event troops/Mercenaries/HO) are mixed into your army are the only Xs you should have. (Seperate them out with the detach special troops button and see if you can toggle looter for your levy).

Pretty much like any other government, get holdings and vassals. But you are able to raid on top of that.

If youre at least duke, i would build more holdings. If you have 0 dlcs i would suggest you to build castles.

its always saying im in friendly territory when trying to raid and so they "abandon the raid"

Do i start having to get boats and start ransacking boats?

No you don't need to have boats to raid, not having them means you can only plunder counties neighbouring your realm for loot (you can still get prisoners from areas further away), boats allow to loot coastal (and if you can navigate rivers, counties with rivers), by having the boats nearby. The loot is then put aboard the fleet and gets added to your treasure on return to one of your ports (plus giving prestige and a boost to the county you land the loot in).

Never even heard of that happening. Pretty sure you have to be in your own realm to set an army to raiding.
1. Do you use any mods?
2. Can you post a screenshot of that message?

No im not using any mods as when I look through a lot of the steam workshop they have DLC requirements and apparently I can now raid after loading the save today.... weird

1. Tribal rulers can only build temples and tribes

2. Tribal levy size is determined by the amount of empty holding slots, so this is really not a good idea in your demesne. You get 50% more troops per empty holding.
IIRC this also affects your fleet size.

you still get a little gold for razing holdings if I remember correctly.

1.) switch governments temporarily

Or

2.) let vassals upgrade the holdings from tribes to castles/cities.

You need just 1 vassal of the correct government, Or 1 holding of the correct type to do this, it shouldn't be hard to acquire.

Castle gives more levies than extra +50% (additive) units from a tribe

And in case youre playing with conclave or legacy of rome, the gold is more important.
