Penalty for Wrong Holding Type - Tribe
I'm feudal.
I just won 3 counties in a war. They were tribal.
So far I have no penalties for holding them but that is due to the 2 month honeymoon period before penalties.
So what is the penalty for being feudal while holding a tribe county.
I'm thinking of letting that go until I can get their hillfort up to stone and then change to castle. But I'm not sure of the cost in opinion or any other drawbacks.

uping it to stone-hillfort doesn't take much, just needs the tech on lvl 1, with a somewhat competent steward sent there to help with tech and a good techlevel in your capital that should be really quick to get. Bigger problem is usually having a non-organized religion in the county, but that can be circumvented by putting a vassal with your religion there, he can just take the decision to change to feudal wich doesnt need the county to have the religion just the vassal himself.

There is no opinion drawback for holding wrong holdings, you just get an opnion malus if you have a VASSAL with the wrong gov-form and that just with that vassal.

Good info, so upgrade till stone hillfort and let a vassal convert it or should I? I own it now anyway and being benedictine I could convert the county as well instantly.

well if you have the option to convert it via the benedictine special power thats the better way to go, since vassals sometimes take a bit and you can do it quick and guaranteed.

The vassal is just a way to get around a long conversion-time if you can't quick-convert

By the counties being tribal, i assume you mean the holdings.

Feudals get the wrong government penalty for tribes only if they have different culture than the county tje tribe is in.

The drawback is that its gonna cost more money and tine this way. Far cheaper way would be to either give it to someone who can adopt feudalism (the intrigue decision) and convert the holdings, or switch to tribal government and so it yourself.
