Lifting an Excommunication
My King of Wessex was born with the imbecile trait. And since he was coronated. he was excomminated on the behest of a recently dead rival. Three popes later, I have one who has a 34 positive opinion of me but refuses to lift my disassociation from the Church. How high does his opinion need to be, I'm very poor, stupid and my kids don't like me according to the game.

Don't tell the Pope or you'll have the same problem right again.^^

Generally its a good idea to keep relations with the pope above 50. And sometime when you get hit by an excomunication check the "relations"-page of the pope and see if he by chance is friends with one of your neighbours. It might be that the excom was just because somebody with exceptional good relations petitioned it.

Yeah, I got excommunicated again. Even if it takes 700 years and a import save to EUIV. I will sack the Papal States. Provided my dynasty doesn't die out within the next 100 centuries. On the plus, I killed the King of Bavaria for having me excommunicated twice. Good his spymaster was my cousin.

As soon as your realm is bigger, look into getting a pet antipope

Become Byzantine Emperor (somehow). Restore the Roman Empire. Convert to Hellenism as part of the event. You'll have the option.

I'm playing a game where Francia became huge (they even ate England) and they help keep Asturias alive. And yet the Pope excommunicates the Frankish emperor on a yearly bases. Every few months I get another message about the poor guy. Of course since he's such a big blob, it hasn't actually hurt him yet.

The pope and his excommunication feature is currently unbalanced. It's getting fixed in the new patch.
