Invading Canarias
I am playing this game for the first time. I am following the Learning Tutorial so far. The tutorial wants me to invade Canarias. I get the casus belli, declare war against Canarias, raise my levies, combine my troops and fleets. I even load them onto the boats. I follow the rules for invading Canarias... and nothing. I get the confirmation of boots marching onto shore... but the fleet with 4700 troops on board are just sitting off the coast for six months going nowhere. When I look at Canarias it says "No valid path to this province." What am I doing wrong?

You have to select the army, not the fleet, then try to send them into the province.

Yep, did that too. Still, nothing happens.

by confirmation of boots marching onto shore you mean the army on the boats has an arrow pointing to the shore that is slowly being filled up?

Army is on the boats, I click on the army on the boats, right click the island of Canarias (shows the little orange arrow). I hear the sounds of boots marching when I right click... but the boats just sits off the coast.

Did you move the boats right next to Canarias before telling the army on the boats to march there?

The boats don't move they will sit off the coast, the army will eventually land unless there is some type of corruption in your game. You might want to reinstall or try the same thing but in the regular game it may jsut be an issue with that tutorial

Thanks to that guy. I had to move the boats first. Canarias is now my vassal. Interesting game but that tutorial is a pain.

The tutorial is more than a pain, it's almost useless, but they are a lot of excellent beginner guide on youtube.

Canarias is useless anyways. No development, part of a mainland duchy so people ge mad at you.
dont bother with the tutorial. jump in. save every couple years and try all sorts of stuff till you think you got the hang of it and ironman all the time after that.

Thanks everyone. I got through the tutorial (finally). Canarias was useless, so far away from Leon. After my leader died (at 40 as scheduled per the tutorial) my little kingdom went to hell but it was expected. My ten year old heir is dumber than a box of rocks. I see some beginning guides suggesting Ireland as a way to get your feet wet and learn the basics.

That is or was Ireland in the 1066 start, as it's rather quiet and was the original tutorial country.

Made it more fun though with more counties.

I'm a beginner too and gave up on the tutorial and headed stright in, starting with Ireland which a lot of people recommended. I found the Steam guide on Ireland really useful:

Also Arumba as suggested above is useful, plus use of the wiki. Whever I get a WTF moment where I don't understand why something happened I check Youtube and the Stean guides, plus the wiki and then once I think I know what I'm doing I reload a to a year or two earlier.

As Valentine says if you save every few years (it autosaves every year anyway) you can experiment and see what works and what doesn't, so I'm learning as I go along.
