Son isn't a valid succession choice in Elective Monarchy
Quite confused about this. My queen is queen of Ireland but I can't nominate my son as a successor, only my half sisters and brothers who aren't of my dynasty.

He's only about five, is there something I need to do to make him valid? Give him land or a duchy or wait for the ability to present him as my successor or something? This kind of seems like a bug right now.

The game also keeps telling me I have no heir to the dynasty and will get a game over but then in a few days remembers I have four kids and get rid of the warning. Bizarre.

The 'no heir to the dynasty' thing is not the game forgetting you have kids - it is rather that the heir currently being elected is not of your dynasty. Since your dynasty will have no titles if that heir (presumably one of your half-siblings) is elected, that will be game over.
What succession are you using? Is it actually Elective Monarchy, is it Tanistry, is it Elective Gavelkind?

It's Agnatic-Cognatic Elective. My only succession options are my husband, my half siblings, and a random duchess who is in no way related to my line.

In the game, my father who was King of Ireland had died and I fought a war to take the Kingdom from my half-brother and won. I don't know if that's effecting anything.

I'm afraid to play any more since it's ironman and my queen dies while the game says I have no heir so I get a game over.

The duchess is a candidate because she's an elector. All electors are candidates.
If it's not recognizing your son as a valid candidate, one workaround would be to give him a duchy title - since he would then be an elector, and thus a valid choice. Unfortunately you'll lose control over his education (so if possible, wait till age 12 where you can pick his education), and he'll almost certainly make a variety of profoundly idiotic choices when he comes of age. But them's the breaks.

Okay. I guess that's what I'll do. I wish the game explained why my child isn't valid though. Everything suggests he should be but isn't. Just gotta work around it I suppose.

Hopefully my character doesn't die while the game says I have no heir. This is a good reason why ironman games can suck.
did you remarry?

Nope. What happened is my father died, I had a weak claim and his heir, my half brother was still a child so I pounced to take the kingdom.

But for whatever reason my children aren't listed as valid succesors.

The only thing I can possibly think of, is I granted my husband a duchy and that somehow screwed everything up.

If the husband's title is gavelkind then that could surely mess up your succession.

I gave my son a duchy and he still isn't a valid succession option. Still only my siblings, my husband, and other dukes/duchesses.

And of course my character at 30 has gotten great pox and is probably going to die. If I'm lucky I'll go back down to duke, if I'm unlucky the game will game over me.
