Assassins society?
I've never joined the assassins society before and I was wondering if there are any disadvantages like joining the satanists. Also, how does it compare to being in the hermetics society?

I don't want to join the satanists because I don't want to exchange my virtues for sins.

I'm currently the headmaster of the hermetics society and I've already written a magnum opus and chosen a lifestyle trait. I've also created a hermetic artifact. I've got over 8000 society currency and nothing to really spend it on. (I'm an immortal sunni han ruler going for the Aladdin achievement.)

Joining the Assassins will make you a secret Shia. That's all I can think of as a 'disadvantage' in your situation.

Just wanted to point out that apparently you need to be either openly or secretly Shia or else you get kicked out of the society. (The hermetics and various devil worshipping societies do not check for religion after you join.)

Details
Right after I joined the assassins, I got the kingdom of Egypt through a faction demand. Then I decided to convert to norse pagan so I could do a prepared invasion on the Umayyads for Mauretania. Of course that meant I had to get a norse pagan wife, secretly convert to her religion, then embrace it publicly. That got me kicked out of the society.

Then I kept converting between islam and christianity to holy war for the kingdom of Africa before getting the Aladdin achievement.

In my case I had to kill my daughter.

i've killed brothers, wives, sons, friends, vassals, father's wives to join

only disadvantage i've noticed is that there isn't really much to do with it, the best thing is the passive buff to murder plots and defense, the fleet you can summon, and if grand master the army you can summon. the shia thing didn't bother me because i was running my empire as openly shia anyways and i've already destroyed the abbasids(thank you china)

I thought it had the same impact to the game as a group of 10 level subterfuge assassins in medieval total war 2

The assassins haven't changed since release so I don't see an issue with all the questions being in one thread. They are pretty weak compared to the other societies. Abduction can be nice but it's fairly dull compared to the others.
