There was a mod called crisis of the confederation, pretty good stuff, hasn't been updated for a few years though

Stellaris is not at all like CK2. I don't think anything really is

Star Wars: Rebellion.

Though sadly there's only 2 factions. And you control the whole faction (though minor characters can turn traitor and start slipping info to the enemy or failing missions if you get absolutely wrecked, like say losing a Death Star or losing a bunch planets in rapid succession).

it's got a similar feel though, since it's fairly character based.

I think the GoG version has gotten most of it's compatibility kinks worked out, the steam version last I checked was pretty meh.
