My Liege is with Stupid

So I declared a war for my de-jure claim on a northern pagan county as Duke of Greater Poland, after preparing for a decade. My liege is at peace and with full troops. All he had to do was assist me in my county claim (he also owes me a favour but there's no way to prompt him to help).

As I'm struggling away he decides to:
1) Declare a HOLY WAR on the pagan duchy related to my county, attracting the ire of all of slavic pagandom, rather than just the duke in question
2) Stoke a civil war in his kingdom for good measure by revoking a Duke's title;

Long story short, we fail and I lose 700 gold.

Next time I'll just have to time my claims at the point where my liege has no plots he wants to carry out AND when there is no chance of a holy war. smh *disappointed face*

Of use the favor before declaring yourself and force him to push your claim.

But, yeah, that's the reason I almost never play below an AI liege unless I'm planing to overthrough them. My advice is to leave the outside expansions for later and eat Poland from within.

I lost the Byzie Empire because my 60 something Emperor had a son and everyone stopped electing my daughter and the Ai completely ruined what I had built up over generations. Ended the save there.

How do I "use the favour" beforehand outside of declaring a holy war?

I searched the wiki for it because I didn't remember. It seems you have to right-click the target and not your liege.
