How to become duke?I'm currently a king.
So, I'm role playing. First of all I united Novgorod and created bloodline. Now I hold 2 kingdoms (Novgorod and Vladimir). But I want to give them to my family members and become duke of Iceland, that was previously settled by our people and then make great merchant republic. How to do that? It's looks like I can't make it my primary title because it's of lower rank. So, any ideas?
813 year, Ironman, if it's important.

1. If you have de jure requirements set in the game rules, then you will lose titles if you don't control any de jure land. So grant independence to all vassals and land in the de jure kingdoms. The kingdom titles will be destroyed within 5 years as long as you stay at peace.

2. Similar to #1, grant independence to all vassals. However, make sure that one vassal is in control of most of the kingdom and has enough gold to usurp the kingdom title from you.

3. Find yourself a claimant to the kingdom titles and make him your vassal. Make him strong and make your vassals dislike you enough that they form a faction to make him king. Accept their faction demands and lose the kingdom.

4. Reform the faith so that you can choose regular gavelkind succession. Make sure your eldest son (who inherits the kingdom) is not of your dynasty. Make sure your other son(s) who inherits the duchy is of your dynasty. Die.

I would say half of the hours I have on ck2 are because I've enjoyed merchant republics but of all the places, Iceland? Really?

If you want to become one its difficult but possible. I just don't cheese the game that hard to do this tbh.

The only way you could do it would be through the console.

Give the king titles to an heir like this, 'give_title k_novgorod 'character id of heir'.

Then play as that heir who is now king.

play 'character id of heir'

Then give the character you want to have iceland and then independence.

then play as the new duke of island again

Destroy both kingdoms, make the duchy your primary and release everyone indepence. Not sure but i think that might work.

You can't destroy your primary title and you can not make a lesser title a primary over a higher one

This isn't true.

You have to ether lose all your titles but a city or a tribal settlement with a duchy, if you have only a city it could give you the game over screen if your a count.

Thanks, I thinks it will helps a lot in the future! However I already solved problem by creating kingdom of Noregr, make it primary, and then make my vassals elect heir not of mine dynasty.

Also thanks to everyone else for the advices.
