Empire of Mali situation

Ok here is my situation. I hope someone can answer fast because im dying to finish this camp.

I started as Ghana in the 700's start

Early on, formed "The Sultanate of Mail", so now I am a king.

Fast Foward to.... May 1119

I now own everything on the west side of africa, and the horn. I started making my way east now and made it as far as constantine, which is my next target cause I am trying to get the last holy site in Mejerda so I will own all 5.

-I already reformed the West African Faith
-Still tribal (havent went feudal yet)

My next goal is going to be creating the Empire of Mail. But can I even do this?

My brain explodes when I try and figure it out. I have an option now to create the Kingdom of Mauretania. The requirements for Empire of Mail say I need to have two kingdom titles. I dont want to create this kingdom title cause im gavelkind. So, if I cant use it to create the empire of mali I just wont create it. But I will if I can then upgrade it to empire of mali. Im Ironman so I cant make a mistake with this!

looks like you need to have mauretania along with a 2nd kingdom title to form that empire. like how to make the abyssinian empire you need egypt(even though that's not de'jure to the empire)

i believe you can still save-scum ironman, you just need to copy the save file to a different location as a backup.

worst case when you die after the empire is formed you'll lose one kingdom to a secondary heir but it should stay in the empire. or you can spend the extra time to switch to feudal or merchant republic so you can change your laws before becoming an empire
