Tips on how to; Change my religion to Catholic from Sunni, etc.
I've never really committed myself to playing as a Muslim dynasty under an Iqta, but I'd like to seriously give it a try, with a very specific goal; starting as Sheikh Culema of Urgell in 769. He is a leftover Visigoth, but fully Islamized and under the Umayyads, and my plan is to take his dynasty in to Catholicism and gain independence from my ducal level liege and the Umayyads in general.

My first goal is to become Catholic, but I am ignorant on how to do this. My first thought was to marry a Catholic woman, but I am playing with the original "no heathens" ruleset, so that's not going to work. How can I become Catholic?

You can take a Catholic county as part of your demesne, then right-click the title shield to secretly convert to Catholic. Alternatively, become friends or lovers with a Catholic character, then right-click their portrait for a secret conversion.

Get a catholic country as capitol, then your character should have the option (either as decision or in his diplomacy menu, not sure) to convert to its religion. This might require the Rajas DLC though, forgot.

It means characters of certain religions are not allowed to intermarry. These days, it's an optional rule.

Religious groups, I believe.

Oddly enough I was able to marry a Catholic woman, but she was in my Muslim ducal liege's court so maybe that's why it was allowed... Anyway I got around my issue. Im practicing Catholicism in secret right now and founded the Society of Jesus. Odd, I don't have Monks and Mystics, I'm surprised I was able to do this.

Secret religions are part of the base game since the MnM free patch. Not having MnM actually makes it easier for you because your liege cannot hunt apostates with his court Imam. Now you can make your secret cult very big and powerful before openly converting.

Secret religious cults were added in the free patch that came with monks and mystics.
