How do you add a trait like "direct leader" using the console?

I can give single word traits like "quick" without issue, but when I try to add a trait with two words like "direct leader" it tells me "wrong number of arguments" I've tried to use <> and " but neither worked. Anyone know how to do this?

you use an underscore: _
