He probably means changing from tribalism to feudalism. He wants to know the advantages of feudalism.
You can't be excommunicated as a tribalist I don't think because you are really a barbarian and don't respect the religious code. You drink blood out of skulls so to speak lol You eat the dead lol Got that from Roman history of barbarian Druids. hehe You preform rituals like Blood Wings ;) You're more of a pilliaging/raiding (ever watch VIKINGS on tv?) and running race of people than those that honorably take land with casi bellies :) I need to go back and look at your building structure because they were a stronger race of people but stupid and dumb to the world mostly. They were the kind that believed the world was flat for like ever. They believed a lot more in "omens" than gods or religion. They painted themselves a lot in blue streaks. :)
Important that you prepare well for the conversion. Basic idea is to have descent buffer areas towards any big neighbour (like Francia) where you don't mind losing 1-2 duchies when they exploit your temporary weakness. Also stockpiling some gold to allow quickly improve your new castles helps a lot.
Often ability convert for inexperience player comes so later that you should be well prepared for the conversion. But I had a game where I reformed Suomenusko quickly and converted to feudalism very early (around 790-795). That decision resulted to extreme discontent after my beloved conquerer ruler died and my heir had horrible stats and traits. My kingdom of Finland splintered nearly completely and I lost a few demesne province to Norse and Slavic invaders. But at least I managed to keep hold of my kingdom title and enough demesne power to allow reconquest after I managed to suicide my horrible ruler in favour of descent heir.
-Only Gravelkind Succession. so your realm is breaking up in pieces of the number of sons you got on every ruler death.
-can upgrade holdings with prestige (and some buildings with gold)
-can raise larger armys than feudal lords (more so with raise tribal army) but they are mostly light unupgraded infantry and get rekt by proper feudal armys.
-can raid other faiths for loot. (if you get a holding somewhere along the christian feudal zones you can just ship your army over there raid all around that single holding and hoard gold like crazy)
Feudal
-option for a lot of different succession laws who stop your realm from breaking up.
-can upgrade holdings with gold, stronger/better troops but far less (no more bonus tribal army's for prestige)
-cant raid other faiths unless religion/culture still allows it.
-gets actual extra Levis from vassals instead of armys he cant control.
general tactic when to change to feudal.
-create a kingdom, and make your power base there (holdings you hold yourself for personal army)
-create second smaller kingdom and hold one holding there for your Heir to inherit , it will break off every time your ruler dies , but s easy to reconquer since he only has one holding himself.
-raid the living crap out other faiths
-use prestige to upgrade main holding to the max.
-hoard gold i mean thousands of gold.
-switch to feudalism then you have a new stable ruler in his 20~s and use your riches to instantly upgrade your main holdings with barracks and stuff.
