Can negative traits they be removed?
I seem to have (As King of Leon in the tutorial game) the cynical trait, I am unbeliever to boot!
How can I find God again?

You can't you "heathen" you have become the devil. only way a trait gets removed is by a random event during your lifetime unless you want to "cheat" and edit the save game file.

Would marrige to a wife with good conections to the church also help improve my Piety?

take theology focus if you have Way of Life. It tends to open events where you can get godly traits more easily. Also it's very likely to become Zealous, which is the opposite of Cynical and will remove it. it also allows you to go on a pilgrimage which you can usually get rid of cynical during.

Also if you have M&M, join one of the religious societies, at least one of them is heavily devoted to being a pious and righteous man. The other one is about purging heretics and chastising others.
