How to create custom character
trying to play multiplayer with a friend, however everytime I press ready, it resets the character I made into the default character.

I go through the desinger, do traits, hit finish. It shows my character. When I hit ready..it just resets it.

I heard it's a known bug that will be fixed in the next patch

So nothing I can do about it now at all? It happens 100% of the time

I'm seeing other threads on it now. Didn't know what it was called. Thanks. Guess will hold off playing until next patch
Here's an idea.
In single player create the character you want. Open the console and get his character info number. Save the game. Open with notepad++ and find your charcter by his number. Copy all his important info.

Start your multi player game and just use the default guy for where you want to play. Get his Character info number. Save. Open file with notepad++ and find the default via his number. Then just paste over the default guy with your guy. Just don't change his number, just change all the vitals number stuff. When you load up, you should have your desired character there.

Let me know if you need some help understanding what I mean by all that mumbo jumbo and I'll explain better when I get back home later on. If you're familiar with editing a bit, hopefully you get it.

I know what your saying, just replace the default character data with my own, so my own charater loads.

But this wouldn't work for multiplayer right? If someone else is hosting? This bug seems to only happen to players who join a game, never the host.

So the host would have to do this. Making sure to back up the original character before hand..but it would also screw up any games he plays as well.

He could make a mod, but probably everyone would have to use it as well for the checksum.

oh snap the host isnt affected by this? sweeeet. Sorry chakra you gonna have to play as an existing dynasty. He a newbie anyway.
My guess is that the host would have to edit the file. It wouldn't mess with any further games, you would only be editing out this character for this game.

I don't see why it wouldn't work. Though I do admit I don't play multiplayer myself.

It actually would work as me and a friend of mine do it when we play, i play as the host and create my character and he just simply picks the default character in the location that he wants to play and then start up the game. Then i save it uncompressed and we back out, then he would go into single player, create his character then get his characters dna and portrait codes and send them to me, then id just edit the save file and search my friends Steam username as that is easiest way to find it(just like in single player you can ALWAYS find ur character in the save files by searching for "mrhuman"

Anyways, i then replace the default character that he picked and change the name, traits, dna and portrait codes, age, and lastly remove any kids spouses and/or parents that the default character had to ensure he becomes the beginning of his "custom" dynasty in our game, then i save the changes, we then go back into MP, i load the save as host he joins and selects his "edited" character and once we start it up, i just have him change his dynasty name and COA(as its easier to do in game then in the save file) and we're good to go.

Its an annoying process sure but only takes a few extra moments if u know what ur doing, so not too bad.
