They can, but it's unlikely.

Thanks for the response.
I have my heir betrothed to the empress of the ERE so hopefully the AI doesent break the betrothal because if it doesent i can probably form rome.

If she goes into hinding for any reason, then the betrothal will auto-break. Also, even if the marriage happens, there are countless things that can go wrong (like people murdering your heir or her vassals forcing her into elective) and your grandkids will get her culture and religion.

In battle? Or was she 'helped' by her vassals, meaning she met with an unfortunate accident?

I think they do if you ignore the marriage for a year or something when the younger comes of age. Im not 100% sure of that though.

I think I have had it happen to me only one time and it was because I slept with the King's wife so he broke our children's betrothal.

He might have been worried they were siblings. Should have been a Zoroastrian.

Then she didn't get herself killed (that implies she did something stupid), she just got sick and died. Rabies is practically an inescapable death sentence.

just remembered it wasen't rabies it was the flu but she did not get treatment for some reason though she was depressed so maybe she just wanted to die.

I have seen it happen, but in many cases, the one betrothed to one of your people has been killed somehow. And you dont even know about it til you wonder why that person never came to wed.
