Too Many Elector Titles

I am trying to understand why I am getting a too many elector titles penality. Currently, I am the HRE and have 2 ducthies, and a few counties; I have no kingdoms. I am not over my demense limit and I do not have a too many held dutchies penality: my stewardship is 7. My previous character was in a similar situation, but did not have the elector title hit; I'm not sure why this hit was activated after my current character succeeded. If somebody could shed some light on this, I would appreciate it.

You may have too many elector titles compared to your vassals. Idk what the ratio is

In a kingdom or empire, each duke or higher ruler gets a vote. Since you have two ducal titles and an empire title, you have three elector spots (even though your vote still only counts as 1) so your vassals are unhappy.

I think your previous character probably only had one ducal title, or else he/she was not the emperor. Or else you were mistaken and just didn't notice the opinion penalty.

I confess to not understanding the elector title concept; I thought that I would have 3: one from HRE and 2 more from my 2 duchies. Are you saying that the reason for the penality may be that there are no vassals that have a number of dutchies close to 3? Additional info: there are no vassals that have a kingdom.

No matter how many elector titles you hold, you get only 1 vote. The opinion penalty hit comes when you hold more than 2 elector titles. For every elector title greater than 2, the opinion hit is another 10.

Every vassal gets this opinion hit. Or at least that's what I think. It might be every direct vassal or every vassal that holds an elector title.

I see; I did not realize that there was a fixed limit of 2; I thought the limit would be some function of demense limit or somthing like that. My prevouls character did have two dutchies, so I must have missed that penality.

In response to a previous post: I have approx 16 dukes with votes.
