Theodoric Merovingian won't reproduce
I am currently playing an Ironman Game starting in the earliest bookmark. In this bookmark Prince Theodoric is the last of the Merovingian Bloodline, the last direct descendant of Clovis. Since I can not play as him directly (he starts out as an unlanded monk), I decided to play as the next best thing and play as the count of Rouen and Eu and roleplay a Pro-Merovingian Factionist.

My intention was to release Theodoric from his vows (give him bishporic, take it away a year later, then invite him back to court) and restoring him or one of his descendants to the French Throne.

Only problem is that Theodoric refuses to have children. I married him to a debudante with the lustful trait, gave him a county of Eu as my vassal (Karl Karling gave me the Ducky of Normandy, not that it will save him), and yet Theodoric still does not have children. I went into non-ironman mode and looked at him, he has 50% fertility. So what gives?

I would take matters into my own hands by marrying him myself, but the only problem is that there are no Christian Countesses or Duchesses in the game by this point.

Any suggestions on what might be wrong? And any advice on how to fix it?

I want the child to be genetically his as well as legally his.
Well then you shouldn't have given him a lustful wife.

He had children, finally.

@Das Boot I've done everything you asked for! Giving Abbey, then imprison, revoke and liberate, the monk trait disappeared, but he still still virgin, he can't married because he's monk.... -____- I have 3.2.0 (JLLL) Version

They might be his, who knows? :)

If the Monk trait disappeared then he's not a monk and can get married, so I'm not quite sure what you mean here? :)

Either way the best way to breed Merovingians is to give him a city rather than a bishopric. It removes the Monk trait, allows him to get married, and being landed he has an easier time having children than an unlanded courtier does. :)

It is possible to play as theodoric merovingian in ironman. To do so you need to have open elective succesion (named Republic elective in law screen) and make him your heir, or someone of his dynasty and then make him inherit the regular way, seniority should work best as he is the only living guy of his dynasts at the games start.

That's not how CKII works. You can only play as members of your own dynasty, and if your heir is from a different dynasty then you lose the game.

A common misconception, there seems to be an exeptions to switching dynasties

One know way is bastard having a child and then marrying in favor of his surname, the child will change surname to fathers new surname

The other way is to have Open elective (republic elective) succesion and inherit as someone of different dynasty

I have done so many times and it has been working in many versions, i have actualy retested the open elective way again just now in version 3.2.1 and it still works

I've played enough times to know that's not how it works, and that doing what you suggests entails only a Game Over screen.

Normally I don't demand evidence, but what you're saying sounds so wrong that I can't take you at your word.

Either you play with a lot of mod either you are saying a lot of errors.

Merchant republic elective don't make you play a different dynasty.
You can rename your dynasty; but i don't think it's the point.
"Changing" dynasty always result in a game over; or you are using some exploit/bug

Playing Byzantium, he was a monk, and I demanded him to convert to orthodoxy. He lost the monk trait. Sorry to necro this thread
