chang char name
Hello everyone.

I'm considering finally buying Ck2 (hopefully there will be a sale soon), but one thing that i want to do is maybe starting a game with a character named after me. I googled and it seems the dynasty is easy with some designer, but the name of char and looks itself I can't. SOmeone can confirm this? Or if there's a way to do it without losing IM?

Thanks

The customisation DLCs are ripoffs, but back to topic,

you can rename any starting charcter by forename and dynasty with the Ruler Designer DLC.
The Customisation DLC only lets you change the dynasty name in that regard.

Forename is easy and quickly edited in the save file.
Dnyasty is probably relatively simple to edit, but not sure how right now
if it's a pure custom dynasty. I'd know how to mod it though.

Or if there's a way to do it without losing IM?

What ?

Only way to rename your character is editing save game. No other ways possible. Probably, with mods, but i never used any of them. You can edit starting character's name ia Ruler Designer, but its not compatible with Ironman. I confirm thats there's no legal way to rename character.
One and only way where's you can do it its a baby birth. Game will ask you for baby's name. You can edit generated one as you like.

The Ruler Designer allows you to customize your ruler at game start including dynasty name, but achievements will be disabled. Other than that it will play as any other ironman game.

Since you can edit your dynasty name any time, it doesnt count ^^

IM is probably referring to ironman mode.

Easy and quickly way to edit dynasty name is click on dynasty shield where you view family tree. There you can edit dynasty name itself and dynasty shield as many times and any way as you want. For example, you can make muslim dynasty shield for christian or christian shield for muslim. Or copy 99% of in-game dynasty shields, except few unique. Great dynasty of Hoemongers with Karlings shield? Easy :)
No need any mods or cheats, its basic content.

No it's not basic content.
It's only possible in-game with the Customisation Pack DLC.

Ah, thanks, well if that is so, it's at least indirectly answered.

edit:
Achievements get lost with Ruler Designer, but not ironman.
Don't know about the Customisation pack, but should not be an issue.

Thanks everyone!
Yes IM refers to ironman (used commonly in eu4 forums, thought here too). And I should have mentioned that I want it to be ironman to get the achievements.

With your answers it's now clear I can't rename and change the look of the first character without disabling ironman/achievements. I think this isn't fair as the appeareance does not change in any way the ability to earn achievements. It's just cosmetic.

I'll probably still buy the game though.

Changing your character's appearance is not the reason why the Ruler Designer disables Ironman, though. The "problem" is that it also allows you to change your traits.

I'm aware. But there could be an option where you would only be able to change appearance, enabling achievements and IM

As i mentioned, using the Customisation Pack should probably cause no issue.

It's only the initial character that prevent achievements. Sure you cant change their first name and physical appearance/culture/religion/traits (you can change their hair though) but the Ruler Designer DLC allows you to change your dynasty name (surname) as well as shield etc.

All children born of you give you a prompt to name them anyways, so that covers everything name wise beyond the very first character. You can also rename holdings and titles as you see fit.

Don't like the Kingdom of Israel? rename it to the Kingdom of Money. Think the arabian empire sounds dumb, rename it to dunecoon united the choice is yours.

This is something I've never understood. Yes, you can change the traits of your ruler, but it still balances out since stacking them with a number of traits and bonuses increases age. You can design the greatest character ever, but he's not going to be much good to you at the start of the game if he's already in his 60s.
