Is Monks and Mystics worth it?
I am planning to buy Monks and Mystics DLC,and probably some other DLC too. So, is Monks & Mystics worth its price tag? Which DLC do you recommend for me to combine it with? Also, does the DLC have any features which could combine well with The Old Gods?

I'll put it this way. If you like role playing a count or duke it is worth it for the added role play aspects. If you like playing as king or emporer the features are more distractions than anything and I would say that it not worth it.

I had mixed feeling aboit this DLC, but still add some elements to the game. If your a fan of CK2 I think it worth.

Way of Life and Sons of Abraham, Sword of Islam. Some of the mechanics overlap or tie into Way of Life focuses. The added religion mechanics of Sons of Abraham also play into Monks and Mystics, such as getting a devil worshipper into the college of cardinals and funding them until they become the next pope. You need to be Shia to join the Hashashin, and you need Sword of Islam to be Shia. After 2.7.1, Charlemagne and Old Gods will get some interesting mechanics with this one, because unreformed religions and heresies will be able to create secret religion cults, so that should make it more interesting to play Zoroastrians, Zunists, and the last legs of the northern pagan religions.

It makes some achievements easier
Prestige comes more often and some societies can improve lifespan..

While I'll admit having most of the fuedal lords running around doing the bidding of secret religious orders isnt "entirely" realistic it adds an extra level of gameplay that wasn't there before on the religous side of the game. Just gets you more involved and it gives heresies alot more to work with when trying to undermind catholicism.

Note: I play with satanism disabled.

The problem with M&M is that, balance issues aside, societies were a bit rushed and some of them feel rather unimpressive or pretty clearly have features missing. PDS has acknowledged those problems and are working on them, but until the patches roll out a good chunk of the DLC feels kinda broken.
That said, the other features in it are really nice, tend to work well enough, and those german girls in the bundled portrait pack look damn nice. So it's kinda worth the pricetag if you're willing to forget the hype around societies for a while and look at the other features.

Depends on what else you already have.

Not in particular, don't think so.

Artifacts + the societies adds a lot, especially the Hermetic society. The only thing I'm disappointed by is they didn't add the destroy baronies option like they said they would. On the brightside they added a destroy_settlement cheat which does basically the same thing and could probably be turned into a mod that would do what they promised.

The only DLC pack I currently have is the Old Gods. Maybe Way of Life would be a welcome addition with these two?

Way of Life is a solid dlc all around. If you ask people what the must have dlc of CK2 is, WoL is pretty much the only one to consistently show up on people's lists.

Honestly, before looking at Monks and Mystics, I would consider Legacy of Rome for the retinues, which really do add a lot more flexibility to how you approach wars; Way of Life, for more to do on the individual level; and Charlemagne for an earlier start date and viceroyalties, which allow for more stability on the empire scale once you actually get them. All of these dlcs are great additions that benefit you no matter who you play as or what other dlcs you use.

I'm a bit of a WoL fanboy myself, so yes, I'd definitely say it's a good addition.

JERubius' recommendation above is pretty good, I'd only maybe add Reaper's Due to the list.

You could pretty safely pass. The societies aren't integrated very well. There's many other pieces of DLC I'd get first.

I knew I was forgetting something.

Also, I firmly believe mods will eventually make Monks and Mystics stand alongside those recommendations of mine if you are into the mod scene, but that could be a good long while. Mods like Geheimnisnacht, AGoT, and Elder Kings will all benefit immensely from the society and inventory mechanics, while mods like CK2+ will probably eventually add more societies or improve existing ones. But that will probably be months before the first steps for that start appearing, and maybe even a year before such features get fully realized.

Really? Why? .... your missing something

I agree with lot of players here, the DLC feels unfinished.

I just installed it and i LOVE it ! Brilliant. Secret societies, satanism, dark plots, all what was missing in ckii is now here !
