Sorry, but there are too many details lacking in your description to give an answer that would be anything but a guess.
The Kingdom of Ireland had not been created. I controlled three provinces in that dejure Kingdom and the revolt occurred in one of those three where I had a small number of troops. I wish the screenshot could be seen because I have the revolt character screen open and you can see that he has this massive list of diplomatic activites, almost all of them are "hostile towards ....".
As for the diplomatic indications on the rebellious character, event rebellions are always hostile to everyone, not just their targets. That's why when peasant and religious revolts pop up in neighboring realms you always see the troops as hostile toward you even if you are not their intended target.
Do not save scum....
I am going to assume your rather new to CK2 as Revolts are not Rare at all... There pretty much Normal, you can assume your newly conquered lands with a different culture will revolt.... its more or a less a given that it will happen eventually!
Revolt armies are chump's there nearly always pure Light Infantry, which means that even though there is alot of them they are easy to beat..... The size of the Revolt is always dictated by the amount of troops your Realm is able to pull up (Vassals + Own Levy + Retinue) So it will never be so huge that you cannot squash it like a bug!
Infact when your squash it like a bug you get a wonderful +15 Opinion modifier that you squashed a major rebellion! So these minor Revolts are pretty awesome for keeping your vassals happy as there typically a one battle war over type thing that takes little to no effort!!!
