12K revolt out of nowhere
Please forgive any problems with this post - it's my first. I am wondering if somebody could provide some insight into what I just experienced. For example, could it be a bug, has something like this ever happened before, etc. I should also say that I am relatively new to the game.

Here is the situation. My character is the King of Wales, and he is trying to slowly take Ireland. My war for Mumu (based on my wife's claim) was going well. There wasn't a high degree of revolt risk anywhere in my realm and I recieved no clues/warnings that the event I am concerened about would happen. Out of nowhere a revolt popup appears and indicates that a liberate Ireland revolt was going to occur. The revolt consisted of 12,000 plus troops. I have about 5,000 total. This just blows my mind. Any thoughts on whether this is a bug or just a random event that I unfortunately fell victim too?

A screen shot of the map might help. Has the kingdom of Ireland already formed? If so, is it independent or held by someone else? Did the rebellion start in your territories or in the parts of Ireland that you don't control?

Sorry, but there are too many details lacking in your description to give an answer that would be anything but a guess.

It's never happened to me, but I saw it happen on Kikoskia's LP from many years ago

I was trying to figure out how to add a screenshot to the post, but failed. I did put it in the screenshoot section.

The Kingdom of Ireland had not been created. I controlled three provinces in that dejure Kingdom and the revolt occurred in one of those three where I had a small number of troops. I wish the screenshot could be seen because I have the revolt character screen open and you can see that he has this massive list of diplomatic activites, almost all of them are "hostile towards ....".

Okay. Then the revolt originated in one of the Irish territories that you control. You mention that there was no high degree of revolt risk in any territories, but that doesn't mean the risk of revolt is zero. If you're a Welsh king controlling Irish land you're going to be looking at a minimum 2 or three percent chance of revolt just for the culture difference. So in one way you are correct. It's not a high degree of risk and the territories still probably looked some shade of green on the threat map. But it's still a risk. Just happened that the AI made a very lucky roll of the dice at a very inopportune time for you.

As for the diplomatic indications on the rebellious character, event rebellions are always hostile to everyone, not just their targets. That's why when peasant and religious revolts pop up in neighboring realms you always see the troops as hostile toward you even if you are not their intended target.

Unbelievable. Thanks for your input. I am so tempted to revert to a previous save since I've been playing this particular game for a very long time. I'm a very slow player:-) But I probably won't - good lesson.

I had this problem playing as the Germanic guy in Brittany. I tried to steamroll Ireland and become King before taking the rest of Brittany and drawing France's attention. Before I created the title a revolt broke out at least 3 times larger than my levies. Next thing you know I'm a single county count again and Ireland is unified independantly of me.

Do not save scum....

I am going to assume your rather new to CK2 as Revolts are not Rare at all... There pretty much Normal, you can assume your newly conquered lands with a different culture will revolt.... its more or a less a given that it will happen eventually!

Revolt armies are chump's there nearly always pure Light Infantry, which means that even though there is alot of them they are easy to beat..... The size of the Revolt is always dictated by the amount of troops your Realm is able to pull up (Vassals + Own Levy + Retinue) So it will never be so huge that you cannot squash it like a bug!

Infact when your squash it like a bug you get a wonderful +15 Opinion modifier that you squashed a major rebellion! So these minor Revolts are pretty awesome for keeping your vassals happy as there typically a one battle war over type thing that takes little to no effort!!!
