How to Kill the White Stag!
I figured out why some people are having trouble with this through a bunch of trial and error

#1: You cannot be employed by your liege

#2: Do NOT manually go on a hunt....let the pop ups occur themselves

#3: Get the hunting dog (Obviously)

#4: Don't know if it is a requirement BUT: I also on this run got the cat, my dog and cat became best friends, and when my wife wanted me to get rid of the cat or dog (i forget which) i said no.

#5: My Dog died well before the White Stag Kill so there is not a Rush:

#6: IMPORTANT: Common Wisdom from my research on the forums is the when it says 'The White Stag Eludes me" you cannot catch the Stag. This is incorrect.

Unique Chain of events as it worked out for me: via the hunts:

(A) Met a girl in the woods, slept with her, brought her back to courte

(B) Met an Old Hag who gave me a position to help hunt and "I felt Great" I think this the random factor on if you actually GET the Stag........the last time I did this the position said something like it made me feel sick or something.

(C): FInd the White Stage and you either kill it (or choose to spare it--no achievement) OR you See it but can't kill it.

BOTH give you the hunters Trait, which effectivley ends the carreer path

ANy additional info? Did I get something wrong? Let meand everybody else know!

Oh, and as a side note...I don't know if it happens every time, but part of this chain at least includes the ability to get the 'Brawny' trait.....so it may be a more valuable carreer path than I think many believe it to be (including my past self). I am not sure how often this happens.

yeah the brawny part is 20% I think but never been able to get it as it is a very nice trait

I got the White Stag on an earlier ruler of my current play through and I did not sleep with or bring anyone back to court, so that does not seem to be a requirement.

Good to know!

You can see all the code to do with this event chain in events/wol_hunting_events.txt if you want to know the details. But basically the event chain only proceeds if you are not in regency, not in command of a unit, not pregnant, and not have the character flag "do not disturb" (which can be a result of many things, including accepting a carousing invite). Then there is a 1/91 chance of getting the hunter lifestyle trait.

Having the modifier "the white stag eludes me" does nothing except change some text to indicate it's not your first time going after it. After success or failure of an epic hunt, the next epic hunt will be from 1 to 4 years away (365 - 1365 days).

Thanks for the info! I've been enjoying video games for over 30 years, but still have never been interesting in the coding :P

1/91 ?! The Devs must not like huners, lol. Especial with the sarcasm throughout the tree :P and the fact that every other path has much better bonuses with Much better (some 100%) odds. I think the Hunter path is also the only one where your character can die (Not sure)

Not much is better than gaining extra health on a good ruler. The chance of dying as a result of Hunting focus is pretty negligible, and others can get you killed/injured/ill plus give you bad traits on top. I can't remember the last time I saw anyone say hunting focus is not one of the stronger choices.

You need to give a hand job to everyone on the council, pay them each 500 gold and beg for their permission to go on a hunt. Then you get a 5% chance that they'll allow you, but there will immediately be a national rebellion for more hunting power for the council.

I dunno, I've actually enjoyed managing the council and having to balance putting people you WANT and then those you kinda HAVE to. What makes it all th emost intresting is the favor system.

Thinking there will be a civil war no matter what? Just put a bunch of people who love you on the council (or go insane and make your council member a horse!)

That wouldn't be so bad if they weren't rebelling every 2 years because reasons, and if you wanted to play a democractic process every time you rolled up a feudal character.

NO, I mean....I save that for either desperate times, Pulling power away from the council, or I am like...NO WE ARE Going to allway women with 25+ Marshal to lead our Armies!

Other wise....I don't find it too hard to keep them in line other than that. To be fair....if you like to play a Tyranny type game......yeah it is now MUCH harder. That said...I am glad it is......it was too easier before spent a character going all MId-Evil to Mass Titles just for the heir to solve it all next.

Only it isn't harder, it's just endlessly annoying and consumes a large chunk of gameplay whether you want it to or not.

Don't like hunting? You don't take hunting. Don't want to play an Emperor? Don't play one. Want to be a Nomad? Go for it. Want to play a feudal lord? Sorry, you're actually playing head of the town council.

Anyway, I apologize to the OP for jacking the thread if I did. Lets steer it back there.

Ha, I AM the OP :P, plus you can always Turn the DLC off if you don't like it.

Well, apologies if I sidetracked then.

And like I said, you can't really turn off Conclave since the entire game is balanced around it at this point. It isn't like disabling ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ invasion or ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ where silliness doesn't take place and the game is otherwise operating normally.
